About Rebecca Hill

Scottish harpist Rebecca has a wealth of experience in creating angelic moments at celebratory occasions!
Celtic Harpist
Glasgow
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Whether subtly approaching the traditional music of her native Scottish West coast or exploring contemporary compositions of her own, Rebecca Hill approaches the lever harp with consideration and elegance. Rebecca’s musical interest was sparked at the local Fèis and she now looks back as a First-Class Honours graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s prestigious Traditional Music programme. In 2020 Rebecca was driven to release some of her own music in the form of her EP 'The Airing', with repertoire that intertwined traditional melodies with her own compositions inspired by nature and sense of place. The EP was launched at Glasgow's Celtic Connections in January 2020. Rebecca was voted 'Up and Coming Artist of the Year' at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards that same year. In 2023, Rebecca and her duo partner, Charlie Stewart, released their debut album ‘Thawcrook’. The name refers to a tool traditionally used to make rope out of natural local materials, such as marram, grass, heather or reeds. The album reflects on this concept of drawing from a diverse range of sources to create a cohesive work. An aim for the album was to contribute to the conversation around folk music’s links to the environment, showcasing the connections between Gaelic language, music and nature. Thawcrook reached the finals of the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Award 'Composer of the Year' category in 2023. Rebecca has toured both nationally and internationally in the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA - with performance highlights including appearances at Noia Harp Festival (Spain), National Celtic Folk Festival (Austraia) and Celtic Connections (Glasgow) with her harp and fiddle duo. “The sound the listener hears is one of style, deep concentrated thought, of light invading the darkness...” Ian D. Customer questions

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

My favourite wedding venues that come to mind are Edinburgh Castle, Gleneagles Hotel, Eriska Hotel, Lunga House, Balbirnie House, Knockraich Farm and Drimnim Chapel. However they are all always beautiful, from hotels to castles to beaches! I have a harp stand therefore I can usually play both in and outdoors as long as it's not raining.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have performed for the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, on several occasions at Edinburgh Castle. I have been lucky enough to play for HRH Prince of Wales in St Giles Cathedral, and regularly provide music at Gleneagles Hotel and Hopetoun House. My debut EP was launched at the prestigious Celtic Connections Festival 2020.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know.

How much time do you need to set up?

If not specified then I will always be there at least 30 minutes before to assure I am set up and warmed up for the event. Since I have a car and not restricted to public transport times I can arrive at whatever time suits!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes of course! I have a range of styles and songs that you can choose from, or I am more than happy to arrange a specific song that is special and unique to your day! I am also a keen composer and offer writing a composition to add a personal touch which can be performed and also printed as a gift. For this service there is an additional fee of £80.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, absolutely! The only thing I ask is if an armless chair can be available, however if that is not possible I can supply my own, and can also play standing. If amplification is required please supply a 240V power supply.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song is not on my set list, I am more than happy to arrange music of any genre for the day! All I ask is for the request to be at least two weeks before the event. If there is more than two songs to arrange, there is a fee of £30 added to take into account the arranging and rehearsal time.
