Born in Hong Kong in 1993, Raymond Wui-Man Yiu (姚滙文) began piano lessons aged four. He moved to Aberdeen, Scotland in 2008 and attended the Aberdeen City Music School studying the piano with Peter Evans. During his time at ACMS, he made his concerto debut with the Meadows Chamber Orchestra in Edinburgh in 2010. He also won the title of Aberdeen Young Musician of the Year, which led to a performance of Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Aberdeen Youth Symphony Orchestra. He won prizes at the Edinburgh Competition Festival, including the coveted Concerto Prize where he performed Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Festival Orchestra. He gave recitals at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2012 he won a scholarship to study with Joan Havill at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Music (with Honours) with First Class. He has recently won the Springboard Concerto Competition in Brighton and the Worthing Concerto Competition playing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Other successes include being a finalist in Glass Sellers' Beethoven Piano Prize at Guildhall and a finalist in the Westbourne Orchestra Concerto Competition.
Currently, he is undertaking his Master's degree at Guildhall for two more years. He is grateful for the generous support by the Deena Shypitka Music Award, Christine Brown Trust, Dewar Arts Awards, Phyllis Simons Award, and the Guildhall School Trust.
