Rafaella is a Soprano, Cellist and Oboist, in her third year studying medicine at the University of Bristol
Rafaella and her friend were excellent. Everything we asked of them regarding the programme was first class. My husband was so surprised and delighted with their playing and would highly recommend them for future events.
Rafaella is in her 3rd Year studying medicine at the University of Bristol, this year intercalating in Medical Humanities (BA) and writing a dissertation on the Requiem Mass and attitudes towards death. She has enjoyed integrating music into her course, composing music for a couple of units. Rafaella is an active member of the musical community in Bristol, receiving an Alumni grant for music lessons in recognition of this. She has achieved ABRSM Grade 8 in Cello, Oboe and Piano. In Bristol, Rafaella sings with The Bristol University Madrigal Ensemble, The Bristol Suspensions & Pitch Fight (a cappella groups) and The Operatic Society and has previously sung with the University Singers, Chamber Choir and various ad hoc consorts and church choirs in the area. Outside of Bristol, she enjoys singing with The Rodolfus Choir and Coromata. Whilst at school she was a girl chorister at Guildford Cathedral for 7 years, including singing for the queen, featured solos on radio broadcasts and professional performances. Whilst primarily a choral singer, Rafaella played Dido in "Dido and Aeneas" in 2013 and enjoys singing various solos within choirs and of course the Operatic Society, This year, Rafaella is principal cellist of the University's Chamber Orchestra and has enjoyed playing the cello in some of musical theatre productions at the university including "Dogfight", as well as the university's infamous cello octet. In her first two years of university, she also played in the University's Symphony Orchestra. Before university, she was principal cellist for the Surrey County Youth Orchestra and was fortunate to play the Saint-Saens cello concerto in May 2013. She enjoys attending a residential chamber music course every summer. Rafaella is also a keen composer and arranger. She frequently arranges for her two a cappella groups, The Bristol Suspensions and Pitch Fight, and has been lucky to compose music as part of her degree as well as for leisure. Rafaella likes to get involved in the organising of music and this year was Vice President of the University's Music Society (BUMS) as well as President of The Bristol Suspensions. She has had little time to keep up her oboe and piano playing whilst at university, but recently played oboe on the music society's tour to Prague and plays both at leisure or to accompany friends.
