Rachel began playing the piano aged 6 and the harp aged 9. Aged 11 she gained a place in the National Children's Orchestra (NCO) where she was awarded a Leverhulme Scholarship for the top 4 auditions of any instrument. Inter alia, the scholarship paid for her to have a master class from internationally renowned harpist Susan Drake, who is now her teacher. At 14 Rachel successfully auditioned for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) and enjoyed 2 years playing with them before preparing for her academic exams. With the NCO and the NYO, Rachel has played in most of the major concert halls in the country as well as on Classic FM, Radio 3 and has appeared on BBC TV for the Proms. She has also appeared as a soloist at the Cadogan Hall in Chelsea and given recitals in London and Winchester. In 2014 Rachel was the second highest placed harpist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. Her second instrument is the piano and in 2011, as with the harp she gained grade 8 with distinction. Rachel is now at Oxford University and is thoroughly enjoying the range of musical opportunities available. She is principal harpist of the Oxford University Orchestra as well as frequently accompanying choirs and appearing solo. In addition for the last few years she has undertaken professional assignments with orchestras, choirs, and as a soloist.
