I have been playing instruments since I was 4, starting off on the piano.
I moved to the cello at primary school but once at secondary school I was finally ‘allowed’ to take clarinet lessons.
In 1988 I won the Peterborough Young musician of the year and a grant from my local rotary club that enabled me to buy a beautiful pair of clarinets and attend the London College of Music in order to further my clarinet performance and eventually I moved to Huddersfield University to undertake a BMus in music performance. During this time I won the woodwind section of the Mrs Sunderland Competition and studied under the tutelage of Alan Haydock ex Halle Orchestra.
I eventually moved to Durham to undertake a PGCE and played for a few years with the New Tyneside Orchestra and in many orchestra pits (I can recite the majority of the G & S operettas in my sleep!!). I have also played with Brackley Wind Ensemble and the British Clarinet Ensemble.
I currently work in the music department at Sibford school where I teach both junior and senior music and run the junior choir. I also have several private pupils.
In my spare time, when I’m not taxi-ing my children around the country to various events, I can be found on my allotment, looking after my bees and sometimes running a half marathon (or even a hoover around the house!)
