About Prismatic Winds

Energetic Scottish Wind Quintet
Wind ensemble
Glasgow

Prismatic Winds are an exciting wind quintet based in Glasgow. The members are all graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where they were highly commended in the 2014 and 2016 RCS Governor’s Chamber Music Prizes. Working throughout Scotland, they have played at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Holyrood Palace, and four times in the Southside Fringe Festival. Keen on outreach work, the quintet have performed to the students of NYWES and have worked for NYOS as associate tutors for the Wind Training Ensemble Courses and on a week-long outreach project in Stornoway. In 2018 they were accepted on to the LiveMusicNow! scheme, which has led to recitals and workshops in Aberdeen, Glasgow and at the National Gallery of Scotland and Usher Hall in Edinburgh. In September they will be taking part in Enterprise Music Scotland’s National Chamber Music Day, with performances in four Glasgow libraries.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

We generally perform as a wind quintet, but can provide trio, quartet, or even solo instruments with piano if required. Some of our wedding gigs have included piano or organ.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

If your timings change, get in touch and we'll see what we can do to accommodate them.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, we don't travel with a PA as our concerts are all acoustic.

How much time do you need to set up?

We can set up in as little as 5 minutes, and ideally would have somewhere to leave our bags, cases, and jackets.

Can you roam around while you perform?

We perform with music stands but some of our repertoire allows for the audience to come and roam around us!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes of course, and if you'd like something specific we don't have, we are happy to arrange it ourselves, given enough notice!

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We don't use a PA system to perform, and if you'd like us to provide a microphone for talking in between pieces, we can provide that at an extra cost.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes absolutely. If something isn't in our repertoire list, we are happy to arrange it for you.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We are enthusiastic about chamber music so love interacting with our audience during and between pieces, which always goes down well. Our audiences appreciate the wide variety of music we play, and we try hard to make our performances memorable.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We've performed everywhere from the Usher Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to Holyrood Palace, primary schools across Scotland and even as far away as Stornoway. We've performed to toddlers & parents in Aberdeen, and to sci-fi music fans in a bar in Glasgow. Individual members have performed worldwide.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We love orchestral and chamber music, but also have been inspired by musical theatre, contemporary pop, jazz, and pretty much every genre under the sun! We've performed several film music concerts, which is one of our favourite genres!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We've performed several times at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Usher Hall, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Holyrood Palace, and worked with the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland and National Youth Wind Ensemble of Scotland, to name a few!
