About Pop

Pop & Classical Singer for Funerals in the South East. Over a decade experience in helping families on difficult days with the gift of music

It's such a privilege to sing at funerals. Music allows a space for family and friends to express their emotions, to remember happy times, for prayer or mindfulness - music can bring relief. It's such a gift to create a soundtrack to complement, celebrate and grieve for a loved one, I'm always honoured to be part of a moment that helps people on those difficult days. Whether it's helping with hymns and worship, singing the deceased's favourite pop song, or a fitting classical piece that brings a rare calm, I am able to sing all different types of music. So you don't need to settle for either classical or pop music for your loved one's funeral, you can have both. I bring everything I need to perform for you, including a small PA system, microphone, and keyboard if necessary. I can either sing with backing tracks or piano, and this is helpful especially if you would like contemporary hymns or worship. I can accommodate any special requests, so please do ask if you don't see the song you want on my repertoire. From traditional church services or cremations, to performance led celebrations of life, I have over a decade of experience making it easier for families of all religions and cultures to navigate the funeral arrangements. I am available to discuss your needs from start to finish and help you create a beautiful and meaningful service. About me: I trained as an opera singer at the Royal Northern College of Music, and in my 20+ year career, I have straddled contemporary and classical music worlds. I've spent the majority of my time singing gospel, soul and pop music, and run a gospel ensemble called Get Gospel. I've had the privilege of singing backing vocals for artists like Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, Foals, Beverley Knight, Gorillaz, Keane and Sault. I've written music and sung on adverts for brands like Dr. Oetker, Canva, TK Maxx, KFC amongst others and written film trailers for Amazon Studios and The History Channel. I am a singer songwriter in my own right and had my music played on BBC2, BBC6 Music, across local BBC stations, on Eastenders, Dragons Den, The Voice Australia and many other shows. Music is such a gift and I'm truly grateful to spend my life doing what I love and helping people at the same time.

Jules was great to work with when planning the music, responding to my (many) questions and sending me lots of clips of the choir in action; and the performance on the day was magical. Nick would have loved it. Thank you so much for making a difficult day so very wonderful.” Helen, celebration of life service, June 19

ased in Louisiana, USA but planning a funeral in London, England I relied on a Google search to find a Gospel Choir. Get Gospel didn’t disappoint and was an absolute pleasure to work with. Jules was very thorough in giving advice on song choices and working with me remotely to make sure my father’s funeral was perfect in every way. Afterwards at the wake everyone came up to me to say how much they added to the service and how it was exactly what my father would have loved. They all have amazing voices and their arrangements were truly outstanding. Thanks Jules and team for everything you did. I would recommend anyone who is looking for singers to book. You won’t be disappointed.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients love my voice and the passion, emotion and commitment I give to my performances. Funerals are sensitive events, and I tailor my performances to suit the venue, the guests and the atmosphere of each event.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I've had a varied career! I have spent a lot of time singing in churches, wedding venues, homes, corporate offices. But I've also sung in big concert halls/gig venues like Koko, Union Chapel, O2 Academy Islington, Indigo at the O2, Manchester Academy O2, London Hippodrome and I've sung on TV on the Jools Holland Show, Songs of Praise and BBC1 Live Lounge.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Ooh goo question. Again so varied! Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin, Aretha Franklin, Ledisi, Lauryn Hill... and classically Renee Fleming, Maria Callas, Janet Baker.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Probably singing BVs with the band Foals on Jools Holland on BBC1.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Small changes to timings shouldn't matter too much eg an hour or two, but please do check with me either way.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. You may have a playlist of songs before the service or a particular song you would like played. I can play those through the PA system. I can also curate a list for you that's fitting for the event.

How much time do you need to set up?

I like to arrive 1h 15m before the service to set up the sound system, soundcheck and talk to the vicar/minister.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Absolutely. Funerals are bespoke to each family. Please do let me know if there is a song you would like that isn't on the repertoire list two weeks in advance and I'm happy to learn it especially.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes. I have a compact PA system, microphone and a keyboard. Please do let me know if you would like to use a microphone for any speeches.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes. I can definitely learn a new song for you, possibly more if I have enough notice.
