Peter Udall

Peter Udall is a London based musician who studied jazz at Leeds College of music in both drums and piano. He took his A-levels at Alton College, playing in the big band, jazz band and jazz collective alongside other pop, rock and folk bands. Here he performed with the renowned jazz musicians such as pianist Julian Joseph. Whilst at Alton Peter was asked to teach in the college’s Rock School for 11-16 year olds. Here he developed a passion for teaching. This led him to a gap year at Highfield Prep School as a teaching assistant in the music department. Head of music at the college, Martin Read, told a reporter that Peter would be “One to watch” on the future jazz scene. Living up to this statement Peter went on to study at Leeds College of Music on the jazz pathway. Here he has developed his own sound, crossing influences from fusion drummers such as Dave Weckl and Dennis Chambers and more straight ahead jazz drummers including Art Blakey and Roy Haynes. He was awarded the Leeds College of Music Conservatoire Prize for BA Music (Jazz) Second Year. Peter’s repertoire include orchestral and big band ensembles on county level and has remained a key figure in the jazz scene in Leeds. He is currently recording and gigging in the area with his own quartet, sextet and the Dimitris Tsiotas trio.
