Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
Always playing with a smile.
I am also an experienced improviser, which comes in handy when walking down the aisle takes longer or shorter than expected - my job is to make sure there are no uncomfortable silences and you're feeling totally confident!
Dealing with the more unusual song requests!
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
I have had residencies at several London and Surrey clubs and restaurants, but my favourite was always the Brasserie Zedel in Piccadilly. It would be impossible to pick a favourite wedding venue, but I always have a soft spot for Great Fosters in Egham, Surrey.
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
My absolute favourites are Prince, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Björk, and Nick Drake... but as far as pianists go you can't beat Billy Joel, Elton John, Oscar Peterson, or Vince Guaraldi. And check out Blossom Dearie sometime - lovely player!
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
Never mind profile; I'm going to be cheesy and say the high point was my own wedding. My wife and I wanted an obscure Prince track for her entrance ("Venus de Milo" - absolutely beautiful!), so I recorded a version specially for her. Soppy, and proud of it!
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
Just let me know in the run up to the event - it's usually not a problem at all!
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
Unfortunately as a solo pianist I would have an amplifier designed to play piano through, not a full PA setup.
How much time do you need to set up?
If I'm bringing my own piano, 30 minutes at the absolute most. If the piano is in situ, I can walk in off the street and start tinkling away as soon as I get there! :D
If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?
Absolutely - though obviously it's better if it's in tune!
Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?
When it comes to choosing music, it's generally easier on everybody (you included!) if you let me know one or two songs you particularly want, (or particularly *don't* want!). Otherwise, I have a wide repertoire of music that is bound to please all your guests, regardless of taste.
Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?
I am indeed, except for Central London bookings. I bring my own electric piano and amplifier. PAT tested and fully insured.
Can you learn song requests before the event?
Absolutely - within a reasonable number! And in the case of a wedding, of course I will gladly learn anything you want to walk in/out to, or for the signing of the register. Wedding procession music is one of my favourite parts of the job!
