The beautiful Northumbrian Smallpipes, quieter and mellower than the Highland Bagpipes, can be played indoors as well as outdoors.  They will lend the most magical sound to your wedding ceremony, add a kick to your Burns' Night Supper, or set the perfect dignified tone for a memorial service.  . I have been a professional musician for over 25 years, and as a pianist and singer I have played at more weddings than you can shake a stick at!  Over the last five years I have taken to the Northumbrian Pipes, and while I can still be hired as a pianist for your event, I am now primarily a Piper.    . I was even recently featured on an episode of the comedy show "Outsiders" for the Dave channel (Series 2, episode 2) playing pipes for comedians including Phil Wang and David Mitchell. . I have also played several schools and retirement homes, with a selection of folk tunes and songs for an enjoyable bit of afternoon entertainment.  . While traditionally a folk instrument, there are many modern songs that work beautifully on the pipes, too - at a recent wedding I played Fleetwood Mac's Songbird for the bride's procession, and Celebration by Kool and the Gang for the exit! . Being an acoustic instrument, the pipes also avoid the headache of electrics, extension leads, and PAT testing! . On the piano, I have a wide repertoire of pop, jazz, soul and classical music, and I and am happy to take requests in advance: it doesn't matter whether it's the Beatles or Bach, Sheeran or  Sabbath, Yiruma or Yazz, I'll play anything!  Own piano can be provided for gigs outside Central London only.  . I'm always happy to ask any questions you might have about the pipes, and look forward to hearing from you soon! . Peter

Wow, what an amazing musician and all round nice guy! Peter made our special day even better. He was easy to book, flexible to work with, had great ideas to share, worked with the event organisers without any trouble and arrived on time. He put a huge smile on my fiancés face by playing her fav songs and chatting to us throughout the event. He has a great voice and great talent for playing a wide repertoire of songs. Couldn't recommend him enough! Thank you Peter :)

In my event organising capacity, I booked Peter Falconer to play at an event we hosted at my company for an external organisation. The event was a drinks and canapé reception in March and we briefed Peter to play both classic and popular music in the background while guests mingled. As free drinks were supplied for several hours the crowd inevitably became increasingly interested in the piano and what started out as background music became a crowd-demanded 'by request' sing-a-long. Peter graciously played ALL of the crowd's requests. He was a huge hit with our guests and as a result the event was highly successful. At another event we ran last night several of our guests were still commenting on how fantastic the piano music was and how it created such an entertaining and unique evening.

Your magical music gave me confidence, waved away any last-second butterflies, and made me glide up the aisle. I can't thank you enough!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Always playing with a smile. I am also an experienced improviser, which comes in handy when walking down the aisle takes longer or shorter than expected - my job is to make sure there are no uncomfortable silences and you're feeling totally confident! Dealing with the more unusual song requests!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have had residencies at several London and Surrey clubs and restaurants, but my favourite was always the Brasserie Zedel in Piccadilly. It would be impossible to pick a favourite wedding venue, but I always have a soft spot for Great Fosters in Egham, Surrey.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My absolute favourites are Prince, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Björk, and Nick Drake... but as far as pianists go you can't beat Billy Joel, Elton John, Oscar Peterson, or Vince Guaraldi. And check out Blossom Dearie sometime - lovely player!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Never mind profile; I'm going to be cheesy and say the high point was my own wedding. My wife and I wanted an obscure Prince track for her entrance ("Venus de Milo" - absolutely beautiful!), so I recorded a version specially for her. Soppy, and proud of it!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Just let me know in the run up to the event - it's usually not a problem at all!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Unfortunately not: the Pipes are an acoustic instrument and I would not bring a PA, and as a solo pianist I would only bring an amplifier designed to play piano through.

How much time do you need to set up?

For pipes, I need about 15 minutes to get settled and tuned up. If I'm bringing my own piano, 30 minutes at the absolute most. If the piano is in situ, I can walk in off the street and start tinkling away as soon as I get there! :D

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Absolutely!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

When it comes to choosing music, it's generally easier on everybody (you included!) if you let me know one or two songs you particularly want, (or particularly *don't* want!). Otherwise, I have a wide repertoire of music that is bound to please all your guests, regardless of taste.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

I am indeed, except for Central London bookings. I bring my own electric piano and amplifier. PAT tested and fully insured.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Absolutely - within a reasonable number! And in the case of a wedding, of course I will gladly learn anything you want to walk in/out to, or for the signing of the register. Wedding procession music is one of my favourite parts of the job!
