I am a session musician and composer, born and currently living in the city of Aberdeen. I am a great improviser and play a vast range of styles, both as a soloist and accompanist. My main preference is Classical but I also play on some Popular Music, Jazz and in Cape Breton / Folk and Traditional Music.
From an early age, I remember being fascinated with Classical Music as it was played in the car, and I always hummed along to the amazing melodies and symphonies. The sort of music I compose reflects Contemporary Classical, with elements of Late Romantic. My inspirations include the likes of Chopin, Brahms and Mozart. In terms of Jazz I love Randy Newman, Miles Davis and Ray Charles.
I first started taking piano lessons when I was about 9 years old - but I didn't really have a great experience with them initially. After giving up for a while, my love for music was rekindled during the later years of Secondary School, and through gaining inspiration and influence from other musicians both professionals and amateurs, I went on to self-teach myself from the age of 15, later continuing my studies in Music at North East Scotland College in Aberdeen I am currently studying there for my HND, and hoping to progress onto University in the field of Education, still remaining active in the music community as a composer / performer.
My recent collaboration included working with an independent production company, named Pirate Panda Films. I composed a short 3-minute score alongside a fellow colleague, for their documentary on a new therapeutic roof garden that was being built for patients at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. It did excellently and turned out to be critically acclaimed in the local newspapers, later featuring on the NHS Grampian website.
I am also a Breton style pianist / arranger in a Ceilidh Band, of which we have received many bookings and positive comments, and I am working alongside some excellent and talented traditional musicians. I am also learning fiddle at the moment.
I am looking forward to working on some really cool stuff with some interesting people in the future, and I'd love to continue doing this as it is definitely my passion.
