Panos had assured me prior to booking that he was familiar with the Mass setting we were using for our wedding and could sight read in any case. Unfortunately, however, this was not evident from his performance. The two other voices and organist felt that he didn’t know the music and wasn’t able to sight read it sufficiently. They found it difficult to keep the music flowing, given he was guessing so much of his vocal line and in some places not singing at all. At times, our organist had to fill in for Panos. Encore payment is online but Panos asked for cash payment – an ask that may have been in error but didn't strike me as terribly professional. Panos was quick to respond to requests and questions via Encore and email, but the performance unfortunately didn't live up to his eagerness and the capability he had promised.

Dear Portia, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, I had forgotten my reading glasses on the day, so my vision was impaired and I couldn’t see the music very well. Apologies about this. This was also further impeded by the electricity cut on the day and therefore the poor natural lighting for a while which affected the whole of the rehearsal before the ceremony, as well as the beginning of the service. Regarding your point about the payment, please remember that you are the one who offered cash payment in an email dated 8 August 2022. Specifically, you said: “Also, would you like cash on the day or would you prefer bank transfer (or even cheque!)?”. Having been with Encore Musicians for a while, I know very well that payments are online but I didn’t think about it when I responded to you. Would you call this lack of professionalism? I would be grateful if you could revise your review in view of the above. Also, I would be interested in hearing how you and Adam experienced the performance. Best wishes, Panos.

Panos arrived early for the rehearsal which enabled us to rehearse some of the solo music before the main rehearsal began. He showed a professional attitude throughout. Getting through all the music for a church service and singing one to a part on just an hour's rehearsal requires very good sight-reading ability (this is the case in all London churches using professional singers). He was willing to put in extra time both before and after the main rehearsal and made a big effort with what was unfamiliar music. He sang (solo) the responsorial psalm very nicely. His voice is perhaps more suited to opera than to church repertoire.

I was very pleased to have Panos Ntourntoufis (tenor) sing for me this morning at St. John's Church in Loughton - for a mass, with a large, varied repertoire. Panos sang confidently, producing a great sound, and provided the lead I required. He was familiar with the music and blended well with the choir. More importantly, Panos was punctual, suitably dressed, and friendly, interacting well with the wider group. I'd very happy to have him sing with us again; and would certainly recommend him for choral or solo work.

Panos is a dependable musician that I have worked with a few times. He is always quick to respond to requests for work and is organised about learning and preparing the material. He has a rich tenor voice and is capable of taking on solo roles as well as forming part of and blending with smaller choirs.
