About Oscar

A professional and competent jazz guitarist (amongst other things), in search of gigs in and around London.
Guitarist
London

I'm primarily looking for opportunities playing either background jazz guitar, or pop covers (guitar and voice, singer-songwriter style) for events, restaurants, clubs etc. For jazz events, I've an extensive repertoire of jazz standards to play. These will largely be arranged by myself, although I'll also play some arrangements from the likes of Wes Montgomery and Julian Lage. For covers events, I've an almost endless load of pop songs ready to go, and am happy to learn song requests for an added fee. Here's a little more about me: Oscar is a music student at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is based in South-East London, and has been playing professionally for 5 years. A passionate jazz musician, Oscar has played at the Montreux Jazz Festival, alongside prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott's. He has also played as a session musician for many pop artists, including Just Jack, with whom he has co-written a number of songs. Oscar has shared the stage with the likes of Ed Sheeran, but has also played gigs to crowds that can be counted on one hand. Essentially, Oscar is an experienced, gigging musician, whose skills extend beyond playing, into composing, arranging, production, songwriting and MD-ing. Oscar is able to provide a variety of different services, including background jazz guitar, foreground jazz guitar, singer-songwriter style covers of a huge variety of pop songs, jazz groups of varying sizes / instrumentations, and funk / soul function bands.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I'll try my best to accommodate this. More often than not, I should be able to.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes.

How much time do you need to set up?

About an hour is ideal.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

As per jazz tradition, I'll likely be playing tunes as and when they feel right, but by all means you can let me know your preferences re: what you'd like to here.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes. I bring everything.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Absolutely! I can, provided ample warning is given. An additional fee will also need to be discussed, depending on the number and nature of the pieces. But yes, learning tunes is a large part of what I do, day to day.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The music!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Countless venues between London and Brighton, including esteemed venues such as Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My guitar playing has been most influenced by Julian Lage, Django Reinhardt, Brad Mehldau, Wes Montgomery, amongst many, many other players.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Supporting Ed Sheeran on his Divide Tour.
