My musical career has always been colourful; defining me from stage to stage.
After university I started a reggae sound system/ band. This entrapaneurial spirit really help me understand pr, group management and most importantly the role of community in running any successful venture.
Later I joined 'The Navigantes', who at the time were one of Yorkshire most prolific ska fusion outfits playing everything from ska, funk, punk, Latin, dub reggae, klezma and balkan.
This early grounding in 'crowd pleasing' bands gave me a great insight into the world of clubs and festivals.
Since then I have toured/ recorded on albums by Slamboree, Rob Heron and the tea pad orchestra, Allegator Gumbo, producer 'Step cat', China Shop Bull amongst others.
In 2015 I played tenor sax & clarinet in a production of La Cage O folles at Harrogate play house.
Perhaps 95% of my drive us currently squarely behind my bands 'The After Hours' (live 8 piece electro swing band) & The After Hours Quintet (traditional jazz, swing, blues and jive band).
Building steadily over the past 3 years we have played every where from Copenhagen (party like Gatsby) to Dublin (NYE) to audiences young and old.
This has truely built my confidence as a front man; no more awkward silences om my stage! Lol
It has also given direction to my style; focusing on the styles and techniques of the 1920's - 50's.
In the past 2 years I have started tracing the musical evolution of jazz through Parker, Davies, Coltrane etc as a means of challenging my self and keeping my 'chops' relevant. I still find, however, that the 'raw' bebop saxophonists (Dexter Gordon etc) have more appeal to me than the more esoteric counterparts.
