Nina Kiva started playing the cello at the age of four, joining the Royal College of Music Junior Department at the age of ten. Three years later, she joined the Purcell School continuing her studies with Alexander Boyarsky. She has given two recitals at the Beniamino Gigli Concert Hall as part of Boyarsky's annual masterclass courses in Italy, and has performed as a soloist with the Vanbrugh Ensemble. Nina was recently one of the finalists of the Purcell School Concerto Competition, a finalist for the Arthur Felsenstein Leavers’ award and was awarded the Erik Houston Prize at the school.
Alongside solo performance, Nina has performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall, St. Martin in the Fields and St. James' Palace for Prince Charles with her String Quartet. They were also part of the Royal Greenwich String Quartet Festival ,organised by Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Nina has also played with various Orchestras, such as the National Children's Main Orchestra, and the Purcell School Symphony Orchestra, with whom she was the principal cellist in her final year. She has also had much experience with outreach and interacting with children, and with adults through music.
Nina is now currently studying at the Royal College of Music, where she is financially supported by the Neville Wathen Award and a Gander Dower Scholarship. In her first term, she was principal cellist in the RCM String Band directed by Mark Messenger, and participated in the Chamber Essentials concert series with her quartet. In November 2015, Nina was delighted to be part of the RCM Symphony Orchestra concert, performing Mahler’s Ninth Symphony under the baton of Juraj Valcuha.
