Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Usual duo line up is guitar and double bass, but other options include guitar and saxophone, as well as expanding to a trio with guitar double bass and sax or guitar, double bass and drums.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Knowing how tricky it is to get events to run smoothly, l'll try my best to accommodate any timing changes. Minor changes are unlikely to be problematic.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide additional music during breaks. This will require a PA which we dot use in the course of a duo set, so will cost an additional £200.

How much time do you need to set up?

Set up time is very minimal for the duo, typically ten minutes to fifteen minutes, as we just need to plug two small amplifiers into the mains. We can set up prior to the event.

Can you roam around while you perform?

No. We need a fixed space in which to perform.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes you can. We have a wide repertoire and not all the songs are listed, so please ask if you have any requests.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes, with he exception of the PA.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We certainly don't mind learning a tune or two if you request it. There may be an additional charge, but please discuss first!

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The laid back, chilled and relaxing vibe!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Many. many, bars, restaurants, functions and clubs...

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Jim Hall and Ron Carter.

Neil Soutar has been performing with his duo for well over a year on a regular basis at the restaurant I manage in Hitchin. Neil's sensitive and intricate guitar playing is unobtrusive enough not to distract people, but interesting enough to really enhance the atmosphere and make the evening a memorable dining experience for our customers. Neil's wide repertoire of jazz, blues and standard tunes also keeps some of our customers coming back repeatedly.

Having seen Neil Soutar perform with his duo at a local restaurant on a number of occasions, I booked him for an event I organised. The duo played for over two hours with a really good selection of tunes and was perfect for our dinner jazz evening. I would be more than happy to book Neil's duo again.
