The NYOW, or 'The Nash' to its members was founded in 1945, making it the oldest National Youth Orchestra in the world.

The NYOW, or 'The Nash' to its members was founded in 1945, making it the oldest National Youth Orchestra in the world. Members are aged between 13 - 21 years, who audition every year. Since it began, the NYOW has performed a broad range of repertoire including works by Bernstein, Gershwin, Strauss, not to mention Stravinsky's Rite of Spring in the summer of 2015! The orchestra has worked with many distinguished conductors including Karl Jenkins, Paul Daniel and, more recently, Carlo Rizzi for the 2018 course.
