Myfanwy Price began her oboe studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Junior Department. She went on to complete her BMUS degree at the Royal College of Music, graduating in July. There she studied oboe with John Anderson and cor anglais with Jane Marshall. Myfanwy is now on the Master of Performance (Orchestral Specialism) course at the RCM, where she now also studies with Christine Pendrill. She is generously supported by a John Lewis Partnership Award, the Ryan Davies Memorial Fund and the Philharmonia MMSF John E Mortimer Woodwind Award.
As a dedicated orchestral player, Myfanwy has enjoyed performing with a variety of orchestras. For several years, she was the principal oboist in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales, as well as in local youth orchestras. These ensembles enabled her to tour and perform in venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Royal Albert Hall. In addition, she was given the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in three collaboration projects between them and the NYOW, the last of which culminated in a performance at the BBC Proms in 2012.
At the RCM, Myfanwy regularly enjoys playing in the Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra and the Wind Orchestra, where she has been fortunate to work with a variety of talented conductors such as John Wilson, Sir Roger Norrington and Jac van Steen. Recent highlights include a concert conducted by John Wilson in February and a performance at the Royal Festival Hall in June, in which she played as principal. In addition to her college activities, Myfanwy is the principal oboe of the Young Musicians’ Symphony Orchestra, which gives several concerts throughout the year at St John’s Smith Square. She recently also successfully auditioned for the extra list of Orpheus Sinfonia.
She also enjoys giving solo recitals in a variety of venues such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and Charlton House.
