Motown Magic is a fantastically soulful act that oozes party vibes. Their repertoire has a cool 350+ songs, which means you’re bound to find your favourites. Motown Magic is a fresh group of experienced musicians, who love nothing more than putting on a show and entertaining to the max. Their specialty lies in Motown, soul, RnB, pop and dance party anthems. Motown Magic’s standard lineups come as a 5, 6 or 7-piece band. They can also squeeze down to a 4-piece if you must, but we highly recommend keeping in the 5th member, and if you can upsize to the full 7-piece band you’ll be so glad you did when you hear those brass tones cutting through and adding that extra sparkle on your magical night. The standard lineup is one lead female vocal, guitar, bass, keys, and drums, followed by the addition of saxophone and trumpet. Clients are continually blown away from the band’s performances, with comments like “absolutely amazing” being a staple in the reviews. Motown Magic is fronted by Ione (pronounced: eye-oh-nee). Ione started singing in church, hence her honed soulful, gospel and RnB tone. Ione studied at the prestigious British Institute of Modern Music in Manchester. She’s had her original music played on radio 1 and radio 6, which is no mean feat! She is an established performer in the West End for Thriller Live, and Beautiful the Carole King Musical, which means you can expect plenty of movement and energy from this leading lady! Having sung with Sam Smith at the Royal Albert Hall, Pete Doherty of The Libertines, and on Later with Jools Holland, Ione has already got her foot in the door of the UK original music scene and is regarded as a highly sought-after professional vocalist by all whom she comes in contact with. Ione is backed by Ewan on bass, Callum on guitar, Joe on drums, Renes on keyboards, Becky on trumpet and Eve on saxophone. They all have CVs worthy of framing, and include some of these amazing achievements: first class honours music degrees; studies at the renowned British Institute of Modern Music, Canterbury Christchurch University, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar; holding the ‘trumpet chair’ for major London musicals; recording for Hollywood movies like Maleficent 2; performances at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, Wembley, Royal Ascot, and Camden Assembly; features on Smooth FM, BBC Radio, Choice FM; performances at the Reading & Leeds Festival, Shindig Festival, Notting Hill Carnival, New Quay Festival; performances alongside Ronan Keating, Emeli Sande, the Brand New Heavies, James Taylor Quartet, Maceo Parker, and INEW RAE (an up and coming artist featured on Love Island and Emily In Paris); and performances on ITV for the Lionesses’s 2022 celebration party. And that’s just the tip of their monumental musical iceberg! Ione leads the way in Motown Magic as she belts out the band's soul, pop, and R&B repertoire. Their 350+ repertoire covers other genres such as dance/electronic, retro pop, reggae, hip hop, rock, funk, folk, indie, musical, gospel and jazz. Motown Magic welcomes you to tailor the setlist for your big day. For a standard 2x60mins or 3x40mins performance you can select up to 32 songs from the band’s 350+ song repertoire, and the band will endeavour to accommodate all of your requests, given a month’s notice. For short notice bookings, you are still very welcome to send over your suggestions, and as always, the band will do their utmost to accommodate as many requests as possible. Motown Magic is also very happy to learn an ‘off the menu’ song request for you, for example, a first dance or your favourite song. Upon booking, you will have a dedicated band manager as your point of contact to ensure the band is 100% on the same page as you well in advance of your event. Having this point of contact means you can count on excellent, fast, friendly, and warm communication at all times. It also means that come the big day every single crease will be ironed out and it will mean smooth sailing for both client and band alike. All in all, Motown Magic’s band members are a very friendly and flexible bunch and take great pride in providing excellent musicianship and creating a really fun atmosphere wherever they go. The band has a big long list of songs spanning different genres and decades for you to pick from and can play complimentary playlist music (which you are welcome to tailor) before, in-between, and after live sets until curfew. The band can be on-site for up to 7 hours, or until midnight as standard. They are happy to accommodate early arrivals before 5pm and late stays after midnight if needed too. The band is also able to provide a band member DJ-ing should you wish to have a live DJ before, between, or after band sets. The band brings a full PA and lighting rig with them wherever they go, so all you need to do is book the band and you can tick the entertainment off your to-do list in one fell swoop because Motown Magic will have you covered.
