About Mister Meredith

As featured on BBC and Channel 5, over the last 30 years I've worked around the UK & internationally in addition to regular gigs in London.
Singer (baritone)
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I've sung and played piano since I was a child but only started performing singalong sets in the nineties and immediately knew I would be doing that for the rest of my life. Anything from old Music Hall and Cockney favourites to pop and West End hits, I’ll play and sing and encourage you to “along”. That’s pretty much how it goes. I studied Music, Drama and Dance at Birmingham University as I always knew I wanted to combine those disciplines in my own way. And now feeding off the energy of a room is one of my favourite things. What sets me apart from most other singalong acts is my ability to switch between, for example, old school cockney, Elton John, musical theatre and American songbook with ease, mostly playing and singing from memory so no awkward breaks to look things up. It means I can more or less make the set up as I go along according to the age and general make up of the audience. “Mr M keeps the spirits high throughout, generating a wave of bonhomie from the sheer pleasure of a room united in song that he surfs with finesse“ Ben Walters, Time Out My style is very much "pub piano", but I can break into a bit of stride every now and then. I also work as a cabaret host and singer so I'm adept at audience interaction and can belt out a tune in a strong baritone. “Highly experienced and proficient...his musical repertoire is clearly vast...Meredith is a top quality pianist” ***** Broadway Baby Some career highlights: I was the original pianist at Soho's famous Coach and Horses 2008-2019 as featured on the BBC News twice, also appearing on Channel 5's 2020 hit Wartime at Christmas. Recent corporate clients have included Hellman & Friedman, The Guild of Travel Writers, Goldcrest Films, Saatchi, Subsea 7 and Apple. And finally, I've been the after-party entertainment for the casts of various soaps at the Inside Soap Awards every year (apart from the Covid years obviously) since 2007! “What a talented and lovely man Mister Meredith is. I thoroughly enjoyed having a Sing Song round his piano” Duncan James

Mr Meredith is a class performer, and very professional at the same time. He understood the requirements of our event perfectly and executed his repertoire in a way that engaged the event guests, while accommodating necessary pauses for speeches etc. Highly recommended!

Luke's (or Mister Meredith's) piano singalong nights every Thursday at the King William IV Pub on Hampstead High Street are legendary, attracting people from all over London and further afield. Being the pub’s resident pianist, compere and entertainer for coming up to six years, he has an enormous repertoire of over 1,000 songs, many of which he can sing and play from memory. Audience participation plays an important part of these events and Luke frequently hosts various charity fundraising events that take place in the pub on these evenings. It’s extremely rare to find piano singalong events in pubs nowadays and you are always guaranteed a great time at Luke’s piano nights at The Willy, as the pub’s fondly known amongst its regulars. Luke brought the music and the FUN for my birthday in November. He had everyone up dancing and singing along with everything from show tunes to pop songs and a few cockney classics. Highly recommend for all your parties.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Because I don't have a specific set order I can bounce off the crowd in the same way a good DJ does, but with live songs including the ones they didn't realise they love to sing. It means I can shape my act to who's there, what the mood is, and most importantly, what you want the mood to be.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

London Residencies: Soho's Coach & Horses 2008-2019 King William IV pub, Hampstead 2016 - present The George Tavern, Stepney and The Gladstone in Borough 2013 - present Other venues The Savoy Hotel, London St Paul's Church, Covent Garden Cahoots, Soho Mr Fogg's Emporium, Mayfair Mr Fogg's Tavern, Covent Garden

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Fats Waller Charlie Kunz Mrs Mills Although my earliest influence is my childhood choir teacher Margaret Brewin who used to tour during the war as The Fourteen Year Old Wonder performing for the troops!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I was featured on the BBC News twice with my piano singalongs at the Coach and Horses but it was also a highlight for me to play at The Savoy for the Travel Writers Guild Awards and always a pleasure to play for the casts of the TV soaps every year at their after party.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will do my best to accommodate any changes. My sets are very flexible so please just ask.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can run a playlist off my ipod, but only have a small PA so not good for very large spaces.

How much time do you need to set up?

If you have a piano and PA there I'm good to go the minute I step in the door! Keyboard takes 5 minutes to set up, but I'd allow 10 minutes for the mini-PA.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes. I've played on many a pub piano so long as it's in working order and in tune.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I'm ready to go with any of the tunes on my set list as I know them all off by heart. You can even request more on the day and I'm happy to play them if I can rustle up a chord sheet online

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes, so long as it's in the UK. It's a digital Yamaha P45 keyboard which has built in speakers for small venues or can be hooked up to your PA for larger spaces.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

It's possible I already know it even if it's not included on the song list here. If you do have a special song I don't know, I'd be happy to learn it, although as this can take some time there would be a fee of £30 per song for that.
