I care greatly about quality of sound when it comes to piping, doing my best to show the instrument at its most beautiful. I’d say also, reading a moment and ensuring performance and timings blend seamlessly. My experience playing a variety of settings, including over 200 services and ceremonies, seems a useful source of advice / assurance for clients.

Q: Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I am a classically trained pianist, so I guess the way I play pipes has been influenced in some way by that. Same said for trombone and styles of playing in jazz/ big bands. Perhaps use of ornamentation and expression leans somewhat towards piano phrasing, than a military style of piping. For female pipers, Dark Isle Tess is a great source of inspo 🎶

Q: What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I’ve done a few TV gigs, through ITV and SKY. For live audiences, I’d say the Queen’s memorial at Lloyds of London - audience of 5,000, broadcasted live. I had been piping professionally for only a year at that point, and had little formal piping experience so it was a super one to play. Recently travelled to Trinidad for the King’s Birthday celebrations

Q: How much time do you need to set up?

None! A piper is often booked as a key moment musician. Such as an aisle entrance, funeral committal, or suprise party. I arrive warmed up and ready to play 🎶

Q: Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes! If there are particular songs from my repertoire you'd like played, let me know before the event. Or I can send a list of favourites to suit the moment. If you have a tune in mind I haven’t listed, I might know it or be able to do a cover for pipes.

I booked Piper Millie to accompany the river scattering of the ashes of a much loved and respected local person. This was a well attended outdoor event (approx 150 people) on a hot day along a public towpath. Millie proved an invaluable part of this magical experience. Liaising with her ahead of the event was clear, smooth and reassuring. She demonstrated an appreciation of the emotional aspect of the occasion. Her song list is comprehensive and she was willing to accomodate a special family request. Millie led a procession of well wishers along the river, accompanied the scattering of the ashes, the offering of floral tributes and a rounding off at the farewell site. At every stage she displayed a wonderful combination of professional decorum and kind approachability. She helped carry an occasion which had moments of sadness, vulnerability and also joy. Her playing was wonderful and carried along the river. All were delighted with Piper Millie and I would not hesitate to book her again. Thank you, Millie. Kx

Millie performed at a ceremonial event we hosted to reflect on the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and to mark the accession of His Majesty King Charles III. The event took place at Lloyd's of London to an audience of just under 5,000 people and livestreamed globally. She was an absolute joy to work with; coming up with the pieces to perform which were so fitting for the occasion. She totally understood the brief and her performance of both pieces were not only incredibly moving to everyone, but also the highlight of the event. I can't recommend her enough or thank her enough for being such a special part of our event. It's a day we shall never forget.
