Miku Yasukawa

Miku Yasukawa comes from Tokushima in Japan and studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts before moving to the U.K. where she recently completed her studies on the Artist Diploma Course, with a distinction, at Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD), under the tutelage of Marilyn Rees. Miku was a finalist for the prestigious GSMD Gold Medal 2023 and performed with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Farnes at the Barbican Centre. Miku played the role of Norina in Don Pasquale with Hurn Court Opera to great critical acclaim including a five star review from Opera Now magazine. Another recent highlight was when she performed Shéhérazade under the baton of Jonathan Nott with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in Suntory Hall and Muza Kawasaki Hall in 2022, Schubert's Mass No.5 in A flat major with Bach Collegium Japan under Masaaki Suzuki in 2023. Miku is a frequent performer on the concert scene, including performances of Beethoven's Symphony No.9 and Choral Fantasy, Carmina Burana, Messiah, St. Matthew Passion, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’ German Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Vivaldi's Gloria. Future engagements include German Requiem with Bach Collegium Japan, same piece with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and Zemlinsky's Lyrische Symphonie with Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa under the baton of Masaaki Suzuki. Miku’s studies are generously supported by the Yonden Cultural Foundation, The Sidney Perry Foundation and the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs. She possesses Global Talent Visa in the UK.
