About Miggins Fiddle Ceilidh Band

We're a friendly, fun and professional ceilidh band and we'll do everything we can to make sure you and your guests have a great time!

When you book us for a ceilidh, you can expect a reliable, friendly and professional service … and a great night! We believe that ceilidh dancing is a fun social activity for all ages and abilities, and it’s our job to make it as easy as possible for you and your guests to join in. We’ll play great tunes that make you want to dance! No experience is necessary - we cater for absolute beginners as well as more experienced ceilidh dancers, and our caller Julie-Ann will keep everyone on track with clear instructions, demonstrations and a sprinkling of good humour! We’ll respond to your guests and pick dances that we think they will enjoy. We also recognise that some of your guests may prefer to sit and watch, and that’s fine. If everyone is enjoying themselves, then we’re getting it right! We are a three piece band with our own caller, and our combination of fiddle, guitar and piano makes a fun and lively sound. Our repertoire includes music from Northumberland alongside favourites from around the British Isles. All of us bring to the band extensive musical experience, and between us we have over 50 years of experience in playing for dancing. We have worked with each other in various bands and projects for many years, and this gives our ceilidh band a strong musical synergy.

Song list

This is a set list from a typical Ceilidh.
Each dance will take about 5 minutes for instruction (explaining the steps) and another 5 for the actual dance.
We will mix in listening pieces throughout the ceilidh, usually after every two dances, to give everyone a chance to rest and have a drink.
Listening pieces are usually instrumentals such as slow airs or traditional Northumbrian tunes.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We often receive positive feedback about our friendly approach as well as our music.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Between us, we have performed at many of the top venues around the North East for weddings and private parties.

Can you perform covers?

As a ceilidh band, we specialise in traditional folk dance music. We do not usually perform songs. If there is a particular folk tune that you would like us to play, feel free to get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our usual, and preferred, line-up is 3 musicians (fiddle, guitar and piano) plus a caller. If our pianist is unavailable, we can offer a 2 piece (fiddle & guitar) plus caller. We have lots of experience in both formations.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If your timings change in the run up to the event, please just let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide iPod folk music between sets though our PA, or you can provide your own playlist.

How much time do you need to set up?

We will arrive one hour before the start of the event. It takes us around 30 minutes to set up and sound check.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes. We have our own caller who will guide everyone through the dances.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

If there are any ceilidh dances that you would particularly like us to include, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Yes

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We do not usually perform songs, but feel free to ask us if there is something that would make your event extra special, and we'll let you know if we can do it.

"We really enjoyed the ceilidh! It was so much fun. You played a great selection of tunes and gave us a nice variety of dances: a good mix of the sedate-paced and the more lively and challenging. The callers were clear and gave us good directions which was great. I hope we can do it again soon!"
