Michaias Berlouis is a 27-year old musician who was born in London, but grew up in Northamptonshire. His musical journey was started and mostly nurtured by the Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust. During his time there, he was a member of the Big Band, Concert Band and Brass Band. He then spent his sixth form years at Chetham’s School of Music, where his principal study was bass trombone. He is now in his fourth year studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Bob Hughes (former bass trombone – London Symphony Orchestra) and Keith McNicoll (bass and contrabass trombone, Royal Opera House (Covent Garden)). Michaias has been fortunate to perform in various concert venues in the UK, Europe and Russia. Recent highlights have been performing in Europe touring the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium with Chineke! Orchestra and playing in the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall in St. Petersburg with Shadwell Opera. Michaias can also be heard on the BBC television series ‘Noughts and Crosses’. Alongside this, recent achievements include joining the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2020, being selected as a BBC Young Musician 2018 Brass Category Finalist and being offered a place with the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra (EUYWO) 2017. Vocationally, Michaias has achieved an LRSM with distinction on bass trombone, DipABRSM on euphonium, Grade 8 Distinction on tenor trombone and Grade 6 merit on piano.
