Mia and the Moon – Best Folk/Country Act Nominee 2017 Unsigned Music Awards. Laura and Mary-Anne Ratcliffe BIOGRAPHY Dubbed “Mesmerising” by Mel B of the Spice Girls, “Visually and Artistically Beautiful” by Rush, and “Fresh New Talent” by Vintage TV, this is the story of two sisters who began singing together as toddlers at National Bluegrass Festivals alongside musical parents – their father performed with Dolly Parton while mother, Kathy, wrote folk songs including ‘Kaleidoscopes’ – which became the first song Mia and the Moon would ever record. Infamously walking out of ‘XFactor in 2012 (when producers asked the sisters to stage fights for cameras), Mia and the Moon vowed to self-produce and record their own complete studio album, the fruits of which were released two years later in the form of ‘Fall Awake’. Laura learned to play the piano, Mary-Anne was already nimble on an acoustic guitar, and drummer ‘Sam Winterton’ was enlisted to help mediate the sisters (…and play drums). Album achievements have included being nominated for a ‘SAFTA’ in South Africa as part of the sound design for ‘Alison’, Soundtrack to Ellen Degeneres London Documentary, two additions to the BBC Introducing repeat playlist, A Huffington Post documented New York trip and a nomination for Best Folk/Country Act at the Radio 1’s Unsigned Music Awards. Mia and the Moon are avid ambassadors for animal rights and have helped raise thousands of pounds for the charities including the ‘International Animal Rescue, RSPCA, PDSA, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Wildlife Trust. The original prints from the ‘Fall Awake’ sleeve artwork were auctioned during the album launch party with all proceeds donated to Donkey Charity ‘Spana’, and in publicizing these efforts, Laura and Mary-Anne hope to support and highlight the work of animal charities and environmental organisations. Mia and the Moon went above and beyond our expectations, they were absolutely fantastic. They learnt a specially requested song in their break for us, and adjusted their songs and tempo to suit our group perfectly. They joined in with the fun, and made it feel like they were part of the party. BOOK MIA AND THE MOON! You won't regret it. I'm trying to think of another event where I can have them play already!

Mia and the moon are a great band. They judged the audience perfectly and played two great sets that matched the mood of our event. I’d recommend them to anyone seeking to create a laid back, chilled out, live lounge sort of vibe.

Thank you so much for playing at our wedding. Everyone loved you and it was just so good that you were able to play extra for us. We simply had the best day ever so we are chuffed that you could be a part of making that happen. I really hope we will be able to see you perform again in the future. I shall certainly be nobbling our local pub to book you for an occasion!
