ABOUT: Laura is one half of folk/acoustic touring band Mia and the Moon. Dubbed “Mesmerising” by Mel B of the Spice Girls, “Visually and Artistically Beautiful” by Rush, and “Fresh New Talent” by Vintage TV, this is the story of two sisters who began singing together as toddlers at National Bluegrass Festivals alongside musical parents – their father performed with Dolly Parton while mother, Kathy wrote the song Kaleidoscopes – which became a song of much importance further down the line… After famously walking out of Simon Cowell’s ITV show ‘XFactor in 2012 (when producers asked the sisters to stage fights for cameras), Mia and the Moon vowed to self-fund and produce their own music, the fruits of which became an 11 track studio album titled ‘Fall Awake’ released two years later. Laura learned to play the piano, Mary-Anne was already nimble on an acoustic guitar, and drummer ‘Sam Winterton’ was recruited completing a UK tour line up. 'Fall Awake' steadily took momentum when ‘Moments’ was nominated for a ‘SAFTA’ in South Africa as part of the sound design for feature film/documentary ‘Alison’, ‘Midnight in London’ was used as the soundtrack for Ellen Degeneres London Documentary, ‘Seldom See Ya’ was added to the BBC Introducing repeat playlist, The Huffington Post Documented a trip out to New York and the album was received well by critics and fans. The year Culminated in a nomination for Best Folk/Country Act at the Radio 1’s Unsigned Music Awards 2016, a Fuerteventura Residency and and invitation to be part of a digital sculpture erected in Leicester, celebrating creatives within the local community. Mia and the Moon toured the 2017 Folk Festivals alongside Fairport Convention and Eddie Reader and worked on writing new material. Mia and the Moon are avid ambassadors for animal rights and have helped raise thousands of pounds for the charities including the ‘International Animal Rescue, RSPCA, PDSA, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Wildlife Trust. The original prints from the ‘Fall Awake’ sleeve artwork were auctioned during the album launch party with all proceeds donated to Donkey Charity ‘Spana’, and in publicizing these efforts, Laura and Mary-Anne hope to support and highlight the work of animal charities and environmental organisations. Laura was amazing!! Not only does she have the most beautiful voice, she also went above and beyond for us. From learning and performing our favourite song that was not on her set list, to filming our whole ceremony on her iPad knowing we didn’t have a videographer (the most wonderful surprise). Everybody has commented on how great she was! Thank you so much Laura, for making our day even more special!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I have a lot of emotion and control in my singing. I am able to give vocal performances in the style of soulful singers and I am confident that I will not let a client down (if booked in the right setting for me style!)

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

tiny house gigs to arenas and all inbetween!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Eva Cassidy, Norah Jones, Beyone, Aretha Franklin, Post modern dukebox, Fairground Attraction

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

A Governers event in Lebanon was huge and pretty random! I've done multi million cruise ship contracts, TV award shows and been on ITV Xfactor. But I prefer doing peoples wedding ceremonies to be honest

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Part of my full day gold package means if you book me, then you get me for the whole day. No problem if timings change

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

yes - for smaller events

How much time do you need to set up?

an hour or so

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

If there are songs in my songlist that would especially like then do let me know! On the whole, I am confident to judge the room and the atmosphere and select appropriate music so you don’t have to worry - I’ll have this covered!

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

yes, for boho, acoustic sets and music I have a PA for music and fairy lights

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! One request is included with all of my packages so you can request a special song and I will learn the song for you. If you would like additional song requests that are not part of my repertoire there is also the option in my add on packages. Always drop me a message though regarding special requests as I will always advise and guide on this
