Pianist Mercè Villanueva Molas was born in Catalonia and is currently working at St Edmund’s School in Hindhead as a Music Teacher. She began the piano at the age of five at Vic Conservatoire with Alba Boada and at the age of eighteen entered the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona where she studied for her Bachelor of Music with Maria Jesus Crespo. After that, she studied a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music with Gordon Fergus-Thompson. The first year, 2012-13, she was supported by a Fundació Puig-Porret de Vic Award and during 2013-14 by a John & Marjorie Coultate and an Alida Johnson Award. After her studies, she worked at Sevenoaks School as a Resident Graduate Assistant for the Music Department for two years. Mercè has played in many halls as a soloist, in chamber music and with choirs in the UK, Spain, Moscow, Hungary, and Germany in venues such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, l’Auditori de Barcelona, Moscow Frederic Chopin College and All Saints Church in Hertford. She also studied voice as a second instrument with Assumpta Mateu and Ofèlia Sala. Mercè has subsequently sung in many choirs and made various recordings, including Verdaguer a Vic (2002), Gatonades il·lustrades (2006), Bis 2 (2013).
