Public liability insurance of £10 million

An experienced and captivating performer on a huge range of Flutes, Whistles, Bagpipes* and Global Woodwind instruments, Max is a specialist in many different musical traditions and idioms. He has performed at home and abroad for theatre productions, at major musical festivals, recorded sessions for soundtrack CDs, TV shows and bands, and has played for countless Weddings, Funerals and other events over his 25 year career. Max has played for the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, Barbican Centre and on nationwide tours and tours to the Far East and America. Productions have included The Tempest, Cymbeline, The King and Country cycle, Troilus and Cressida and King John. He has worked with Sampad, Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham Rep and Come From Away at the Phoenix Theatre in the West End and has played at Glastonbury, Cambridge and Boomtown Festivals (with 12 piece folk big-band The Destroyers). He has also worked with the UK Chinese Ensemble, The Jasmine Moon Ensemble, jazz ensemble Surge (Cheltenham and London Jazz festivals) and regularly plays with ceilidh bands The Burdock Band, Rabscallion and The Ship Band. In his regular work playing for people’s family events including Weddings, Funerals, Wakes and Parties Max treats each and every one with the same care and attention as he has for the many similar events in his own family for which he has played-ensuring the music, the timing and the playing are delivered in the perfect way and with real sincere commitment and attention to detail. Max has recorded for several CDs of music taken from RSC productions, for BBC-Wildlife’s The Hunt, on the three albums by The Destroyers and for producer Gareth Cousins and composers Frank Moon, Tom Gibbons, Dave Price and Richard Shrewsbury. He is also a regular collaborator with music production house Manike Music both for recording sessions and in writing and recording production music albums for the Audio Network and Bibliotheque record labels. * For reference and clarity, Max plays the following types of Bagpipes; Irish Uilleann Pipes, Scottish SmallPipes and Northumbrian SmallPipes. Videos of him playing these are all available on his profile. Unfortunately he doesn’t play the Great Highland Bagpipes, ie the type typically used at Burns Night or at a military event, so if you are specifically interested in booking those then Max is unable to help. However, if you are interested in a related but different (and less loud!) Bagpipe sound then please do make an enquiry and Max will see if he can offer the perfect Bagpipe music and experience for your events’ needs.

I asked Max if he would play at my mother's wake in Abingdon, as I know from his teaching that his musicianship covers a range of genres and his performance is excellent. My mother loved folk music and he arranged a set that was a gift to her memory and tastes. As a family we were so grateful. A family friend also booked him for his birthday where again he arranged a more upbeat set covering some Klezmer and European folk beats also. The guests loved it. He was also really sensitive, helpful and organised in the planning stage. I recommend him!

I booked Max for a studio recording session to play on an upcoming album published by Audio Network. Max came with a huge assortment of pipes, and whistles. Max was full of ideas and was a really excellent musician to work with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use Max again for another project. 5 Stars
