Matthew is a young cellist from North East Lincolnshire. After having started the cello at the age of 13, Matthew soon began travelling to Manchester to study with cellist Barbara Grunthal. Matthew currently studies as a scholarship student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Ulrich Heinen. Matthew enjoys playing a variety of genres, from quartets to large orchestral works.

Matthew came into the rehearsals process with a great attitude and sense of professionalism. He was confident and comfortable with all of the pieces from day one and adapted to any changes made (vamps, repeats ect) easily and fluently and would happily take on new material or pieces when needed. However, one of the biggest strengths Matthew brought to the production as a whole was his ability to adapt to actor-musicianship, adding character and personality both in his playing and his interactions with other musicians and the actors on stage. This skill set also materialised in Matthews ability to interpret artistic instructions given to him, changing his style to what suited the show best. If you are looking for a Cellist that not only plays well but fits into an artistic vision well I would highly recommend Matthew. Jordan Shiel- Musical director, The Asylum Players
