Matthew Maclennan Scottish Dance Band is a group of musicians who have many years experience in playing for events all of Scotland and beyond. Matthew is also a very experienced caller of Ceilidh dances. This allows everyone to join in and enjoy the fun of ceilidh dancing. Matthew Maclennan Scottish Dance Band made their debut performance on BBC Radio Scotland in 2009 and have been broadcasting on the popular programme "Take the Floor" since then. The members of the band have been broadcasting on radio, tv and commercial recordings over many decades. In 2014 Matthew Maclennan Scottish Dance Band were nominated at Na Trads for the "Scottish Dance Band of the year" award. Matthew Maclennan has made trips abroad to play for weddings in France, Caledonian Societies in Kenya, Oman and Norway, The British Army in Germany, Scottish country dancing in Spain and the Netherlands. He looks forward to travelling to new places either as a soloist or with the band. Whether it is a student function, village hall dance, black tie reeling event, wedding, school dance or corporate function, Matthew Maclennan Scottish Dance Band will supply the music.

Matthew was extremely obliging and very keen to provide exactly what my daughter wanted for her wedding dance. He and the band arrived in very good time and played beautifully and with great energy to a full dance floor all evening, giving us a great selection of dances. A wonderful end to a perfect wedding celebration!

We had this band for our wedding reception and they were so fantastic! Great music, great caller who was willing to wrangle our international guests and got everyone excited about ceilidh dancing (we have lots of ceilidh converts!). They were also so responsive and easy to schedule with, even through multiple reschedules due to covid. Would highly recommend for any function, have just re-booked them for another event.

We have performed in all sorts of venues from country halls to full size theatres from Shetland in the north to the South of England. All venues catered

Iain Macphail, Jimmy Shand, Ian Powrie

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

BBC Radio Scotland Take the Floor programme, Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival, Orkney Music Festival, Beach Ballroom Aberdeen.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line-ups are as follows: - 3-piece: Accordion and Caller, Fiddle and Drums - 4-piece: Four piece ceilidh band. Accordion, Fiddle, Piano and Drums. Including dance caller - 5-piece: 2 accordions, fiddle, piano and drums including dance caller. - 6-piece: 2 accordions, fiddle, piano, bass and drums including dance caller.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We can be flexible with timings. Please just let us know and we can discuss the details further.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide a DJ set for your party. This can be tailored to your tastes. Please let us know your favourite genres and acts and we can make sure to include this.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually we take about 1 hour to set up. Background music can be played once we are set up and ready to go.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our tunes are mostly from the traditional genre. If you have particular favourites then please just let us know and we will include them in my sets.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Yes. We do not assume the venue has PA.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes. Please do not hesitate to ask for any requests that you may have. If you have a tune that is special to you then just ask and we will be happy to play this for you.
