Hi, I'm Matthew and I'm currently studying at the university of Manchester. I have played piano for 12 years now, classically trained at first to grade 8, and now I play all styles, especially jazz. With a quick musical ear, I can learn songs at short notice and take requests for what you'd like to hear prior to performing. My piano playing would be perfect for background music for any events such as parties or in restaurants/bars. I also have played the trumpet for 10 years, again beginning with classical grade 8 and getting into jazz later on, involved in both small jazz groups and big bands, and also in funk and soul bands, but I can learn any playing for a group quickly and also improvise at short notice. I also got to grade 8 on the drums, and have been involved in bands of many styles (rock, pop, jazz, theatre) so I am very adaptable within an ensemble. I have played in many musical theatre productions in the past, on all 3 instruments, (e.g. Les Miserables, Chicago, Annie, Beauty and the Beast, and many more), in which sharp musical skills are required to react to the stage and a musical director and read sheet music at a high level. Overall, my solo piano playing is perfect for background music at your parties/bar and restaurant events, my trumpet playing is perfect for your jazz/funk/soul bands where tight playing and improvising on stage is needed, and my drumming is perfect for bands of all styles.

Matthew brings a warm, lyrical quality to his piano playing, drawing listeners in with a clear sense of musical direction. His touch is sensitive, especially in softer passages, and he shows a good awareness of tone and balance.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I tend to be super flexible with my timings, so just let me know if things change and I'm certain it'll be fine.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually I'd take 30 to 45 minutes to get the keyboard in, set it up and check volumes.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes, given it's sufficiently in tune, then absolutely!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes, absolutely! I want my music to be as close to what you want as possible, so pick whichever songs from the list that you like, and also if there are any that aren't on there, I'm sure I'll be able to play requests too!

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes, I have a Roland FP30X.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes! I can learn most song requests very quickly, and if it's popular enough, I might well know it already, so do request songs!
