Matt has been playing since he was about 8 years old, he started on classical yet was also drawn to the flamboyant playing of Van Halen and grit of Nirvana. In his teens he switched to the electric guitar and carried on working on the two instruments right up to studying Music at Bath Spa where he was the first to study both electric and classical guitar as separate instruments. It was here his love for jazz and improvisation really started to take flight and propelled him to his future career. His interest for this was encouraged by the late Tim Spinks (former Julienne Bream Prize winner) and the renowned Stuart Ryan.
Bouncing back after a post uni four year injury to his wrist Matt has managed to develop a fluid and individual style that is both harmonically and rhythmically fresh. He has worked with musicians and singers across Bristol and in London where he hails from performing as part jazz does, quartets, big bands, motown and funk bands.
With one foot in tradition and one looking in the future Matts career and skills are set to go from strength to strength.
