Verified profile

Matt is a professional drummer based in North Hertfordshire. He is experienced in a wide variety of musical genres; Rock, Metal, Indie, Drum and Bass, Reggae, Ska, Folk, Pop, Country, RnB, Blues, and much more. He has the resources to record drum tracks from home, using either an electric or acoustic drum kit, and is able to learn any song to a high standard in a short space of time. Matt has been performing with bands since 2004. He is currently providing drums for Indie/Folk band St.Clair, and hardcore band Shattered Knees. Each band showcases two entirely different styles of drumming, St.Clair's wistful sounds utilise a style of drumming that remains largely in the background, taking on a more supporting role, whereas Shattered Knees' aggressive and fast paced noise has the drums very much in the forefront, with hard hitting patterns and a flurry of drum fills playing a very pivotal role in each song. Recently Matt took on the role of session drummer for The Wandering Hearts, a Folk/Americana band based in London, and shared the stage with them at venues such as Hyde Park, IndigO2, and Bush Hall.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Not a problem! With enough notice I'm happy to accommodate to perform at an earlier or later time. I'm also happy to change the date if necessary, though I cannot always guarantee availability.

How much time do you need to set up?

For a full drum kit plus sampling pad an in ear monitors I would usually require 15-20 minutes of set up time. Smaller kits can be set up in a matter of minutes

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Ideally I will have been given all the songs needed for the event. If you want me to learn extra songs as backup that's perfectly acceptable. As long as I know the songs feel free to pick and choose what you want to play!

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Absolutely! I'm even able to provide my own monitoring system if needed.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I pride myself on being able to learn many songs in a short space of time, whether original or cover songs. I often have many songs to learn for multiple bands, so please get your requests in early - I'm a fast learner but more time to practice will help to get everything as polished as possible.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

One of the comments I get from many of the shows are based around I the character and personality I show behind the kit, and it's something I feel proud of!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I've performed at many venues including the O2 Academy Islington, Indigo at the O2 and Hyde Park

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

BST Hyde Park in 2018 was a massive highlight for me, as well as BBC's Biggest Weekend in Coventry the same year.

Pharaoh and the Beats recently played at our wedding at Smeetham Hall Barn and provided a really fantastic night of live entertainment for us and our guests! From the start, Leanne and the team's services were super professional. After quickly responding to our initial enquiry and questions, we were invited to a rehearsal to check them out and see if the band's style was a fit for our event. Getting to meet Leanne, hearing her amazing vocal talent live, and seeing how well the band gelled together really put us at ease and confirmed they were going to be the right choice for our wedding. Communication and flexibility from the band leading up to and including the big day was excellent too such as promptly sharing PAT/PLI certificates for the venue, tailoring a varied set-list to our taste/audience, letting us choose a couple of our favourite songs for them to learn and perform, dealing with some speech over-runs compressing set-up time on the night, and even letting the Groom get up on stage with Leanne to sing a few verses of the kiwi classic 'Be Mine Tonight' and Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin'' to the Bride! Everyone had a great night and we were all super impressed with Leanne's stunning vocals and the band's warm up-beat sound. If you're looking for a professional and reliable covers band with a vocalist that can cover a wide range of material and really get the party going, hire these guys! Lisa & Mark

Pharaoh and the Beats played for my 21st and they literally made the night! Guests were up and dancing by the second song of the set and we didn't stop dancing all night. They were friendly and professional and sounded incredible! Great song choices as well. I want another party just so I can book them again!
