Mat Roberts

Music has been with me my entire life; it is an essential part of who I am and what I spend most of my time doing. I am extremely lucky to have had a huge variety of experiences as a musician from the age of 7 when I joined the cathedral choir in Canterbury, all the way to the present day with my most recent performance ventures with popular artists such as Loyle Carner, Rae Morris, Freya Ridings, and others at the top of their game. I primarily work in the pop or non-classical sector, but am available for a range of classical and other contemporary styles and genres. A large part of my work is in recording sessions for solo artists and bands, with credits on songs by acts such as Freya Ridings, Joy Crookes, Priya Ragu, Another Sky, Izal, Puma Blue and Dahlia Sleeps. The other major part of my work involves live performance. Last year I was lucky enough to tour with Rae Morris alongside the release of her third studio album, which involved performances on Channel 4's "Sunday Brunch", BBC Radio 4's "Loose Ends", six UK festival shows including Main Stage at All Points East, and a UK Headline Tour. In October 2023 I was invited to play for Loyle Carner at The Royal Albert Hall. I have also played live with Another Sky, Plastic Mermaids, Re Teu, Dahlia Sleeps, Ed The Dog and many other up-and-coming artists in the London scene in a wide range of settings and in varying roles. I studied Popular Music at Goldsmiths, University of London primarily as a singer and songwriter, but was also heavily involved in multiple projects across the entire music department, including chamber ensembles, orchestras and contemporary-classical performances.
