Martin’s piano playing talent was spotted at the age of 6 when he spontaneously started to play radio tunes fluently by ear. By the age of 18 he had left the family home in Wales and moved to London having been awarded a place to study piano at The Royal College of Music.
After graduating Martin concentrated his playing on light and pop music genres, expanding his already extensive repertoire of pieces. Recording sessions for numerous European artists/bands followed, including becoming pianist/keyboard player with indie band Shelleyan Orphan which also included being the main support act for The Cure on their Prayer Tour throughout Europe, Canada and the USA.
Martin’s diverse repertoire of romantic ballads, pop and classical standards, film themes and show tunes, coupled with his exceptional improvisatory skills, have resulted in many invitations to perform over the years, including residencies, at locations such as: The Royal Garden Hotel, The Ivy, The Café Royal, Fortnum & Mason (St. James’s Restaurant), The Lanesborough Hotel, The Goring Hotel, The Westbury Hotel, The Cumberland Hotel, The Basil Street Hotel and The Hurlingham Club, amongst many others. Currently, Martin can be found performing regularly at Browns Restaurants across London.
In addition to his work as a session musician and solo pianist, Martin also makes time to compose short, mainly electronic mood pieces.
