Marta's Story
Italian born jazz vocalist Marta Capponi started her career when she was 12 years old supported by her family, winning many local and national music contests and being considered an "Enfant Prodige".
At 19 she moved to Rome where started her jazz studies in the prestigious school "Saint Louis College of Music" with the best italian and international musicians and vocalists such as Maria Pia De Vito, Shawnn Monteiro, Carl Anderson, John Taylor, Paolo Fresu, John Patitucci, Bob Stoloff, Norma Winston and many others.
As soon as she arrived in Rome her name became well known in the music scene and she started many different collaborations that led her mind to be very open to any kind of musical experience, from jazz to pop, from folk to brazilian music, passing through contemporary and improvised music.
Although she was very young we can easily find her name alongside famous jazz musicians such as Bobby Durham, Fabrizio Bosso, Javier Girotto, Massimo Faraò and so many others italian musicians playing with who she established her career in Italy performing in the most famous Jazz Festival such as "Umbria Jazz", "Umbria Jazz Winter", "Ravello Jazz Festival" , "Spoleto Festival die Due Mondi", "Casa del Jazz", "Villa Celimontana" , "Auditorium Parco della Musica" and many clubs all around Italy and Europe with her own band and as special guest.
In 2012 Marta moved to London to challenge herself starting all over again and pushing her dreams to become bigger than before! As soon as she arrived on the London jazz scene, they looked at her with great respect and it is no surprise that although Marta is a relative newcomer to the UK, her talent is proceeding her.
She can be heard around London town performing with established and highly recognized musicians from a multitude of genres. Musicians such as the very exciting Phillip Achille (Lionel Richie, ESKA), Femi Temowo (Amy Winehouse, Soweto Kinch, Courtney Pine, The Roots, George Benson, Dee Dee Bridgewater), Ernesto Simpson (Herbie Hancock, Omar Sousa, Richard Bona, Gonzalo Rubalcaba), Luca Boscagin (John Abercrombie, John Wetton, Sonny Fortune, Francesco Bearzatti), Adriano Adewale (Antonio Forcione, Sarah Jane Morris), Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse), Antonio Forcione, Davide Mantovani (Lisa Stansfield), and Marcelo Andrade who called Marta to be part of his own project "African Tree".
Influenced by so many different kind of music and cultures and having her musical roots in jazz and african music, Marta's goal is to find a way to blend all these experiences together to create a special and unique sound. She strongly believes that music is just one language and that the most important thing is to free our "natural voice" to express our deep emotions and be connected with ourselves and the universe. That's why she is a master in teaching vocal technique and musical expression alongside jazz improvisation and songwriting.
