Mark made his professional debut in 1987, and joined the Royal Opera House as principal Bass in 1989, where roles included Colline, Ancient Hebrew Samson et Dalilah, Lodovico Othello, King Aida, Timur Turandot, First Nazarene Salome, and Capellio Capuletti et Montecchi. He has sung with many of the leading singers of recent times, including Domingo, Carreras, Pavarotti, Te Kanawa, Solti, Caballe, and Horne.
In 1998 he joined English National Opera as principal Bass, where he sang Pistola Falstaff, Daland The Flying Dutchman, Colline, Lodovico, Don Basilio, Sparafucile, Bartolo and Parson Cunning little Vixen.
In 2001 Mark started his freelance career, since when he has sung Raleigh Gloriana in Phyllida Lloyd’s award winning production, the title role in Donizetti’s comedy Viva La Mamma, Plunkett in Flotow’s Martha at the Gaity Theatre Dublin, Zuniga for Glyndebourne Touring Opera and Angelotti and Swallow Peter Grimes for the Reisopera Netherlands. He has also appeared with Opera Tours as Don Basilio, and has also performed Don Bartolo Barbiere.
He has also returned to Covent Garden to sing Theseus Midsummer Night’s Dream, Doctor Grenville La Traviata, Ceprano Rigoletto and Raimondo Matilde di Shabran.
Recordings include Simon Boccanegra, La Traviata and Otello with Solti, Salome with Downes, Pulcinella with Robert Craft.
He also frequently sings in oratorios and concerts in the area.
Mark is also a singing teacher, with a thriving private practice, and is the Music Director of Crowborough Singing For Fun Choir, and the Crowborough Choral Society.
