Marianne McGregor, 23, is a professional singer based in Glasgow.
Marianne McGregor is a jazz singer and songwriter based in Glasgow, orginially from Orkney. An honours graduate of the Academy of Music & Sound Glasgow, Marianne now works full time as a musician and music teacher, performing regularly. Although Marianne is Canadian by birth, she was raised in Orkney in the North of Scotland by her mother, she grew up learning jazz songs and being taught music by her family. She then moved to Glasgow in 2012 to further her studies of music and start her career. Marianne sings with a distinctive jazz flavour, often compared to Amy Winehouse and Billie Holiday, but with her own recognisable tone added in. Throughout her career Marianne has been fortunate to be involved with the likes of The Voice UK, STV Glasgow, to be recognised by band Post Modern Jukebox for her voice and recognised on social media by the Amy Winehouse Foundation for her vocal similarity to the idol. Marianne's most recent success is the win of a Danny Kyle Award in Celtic Connections 2017 for her unique voice and songwriting ability. The singer was also featured in this year's Glasgow Jazz Festival June 2017 and performed on the Ice House Jazz Stage at Belladrum festival August 2017. Marianne is currently working on an album of original songs to be released next year.
