Maria Vizitiu was born in 1990 in Iaşi, Romania and began playing the flute alongside her piano studies at the age of 12, while attending the "Octav Bancila" Specialist Music School. It was there that she began her early musical education and developed her passion for the instrument. Maria continued her flute studies with Dorel Baicu after being awarded a place at the "George Enescu" University of Arts in Iaşi at the age of 19. She went on to become principal flautist in the University’s Symphony Orchestra. Maria has performed in numerous competitions throughout Romania, most notably with the Artis trio winning first prize in both the George Georgescu and Emanuel Elenescu competitions. She has played both solo and chamber works in concerts throughout Europe and performed in Masterclasses with Claire Southworth, Ian Clarke, Karen Jones, Pierre Yves Artaud and Rostislav Yovchev. In 2012 Maria moved to England and began an Independent Study Program at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London where she studied Flute Performance with Alan Baker. In 2013 she was offered a scholarship at Birmingham Conservatoire where she is currently studying under Marie-Christine Zupancic (section leader, CBSO) and Judith Hall.
