Maria is a multi-award-winning pianist based in Manchester, who has performed in Germany, Russia, Finland, Ukraine, and Baltic states.
Maria was born in Estonia, her first encounter with music happened at the age of four and it involved occasional singing lessons. A year later she decided to switch to piano instead when she heard Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor performed live. After finishing music school at the age of 14 Maria moved cities to go to Tallinn G. Ots Music High School, which she successfully graduated in 2010. She then came to Scotland to piano with Dr. Barbara Payne at the University of Aberdeen. She is currently a postgraduate student at RNCM with Richard Ormrod. Having participated in many competitions and masterclasses, she has been awarded second prize at the International F. Chopin Piano Competition in Estonia at the age of eight; a special diploma for unique interpretation of Liszt at the International F. Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar, Germany in 2003. Maria has been awarded Ogston Music Prize in 2014 and received gold diplomas of Aberdeen and North East of Scotland Music Festival in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Maria has also performed in festivals in Russia, Poland, Ukraine, and Latvia.
