Welcome to my page. I'm Marcus - singer and musician from the Hampshire/ Surrey borders - performing Swing/Ratpack/Soul/Pop and Classic songs through the decades perfect for special occasions. With a live performing background going back over 25 years, I am very experienced in getting a rapport going with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. I have a very wide repertoire and can always adapt the music to suit your event and your audience. Past clients have been kind enough to say that I have a 'lovely singing voice' and an 'infectious enthusiasm for the music which soon spreads to the audience'. I sing and play a nice mix of popular tunes from Ratpack, through Motown, Soul and Pop songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s all the way through to contemporary numbers by George Ezra and Ed Sheeran – either in the background or for dancing, depending on the nature of your event. I can always find the right choice for Wedding Drinks Receptions, Special Birthdays/ Anniversaries or Dinner and Dance events. When the ambience is right - for example at a Summer Garden Party - I also play atmospheric jazz trumpet. For your event, you can choose particular songs you like from my repertoire list, or you can tell me the vibe you're looking for and I’ll do the rest. I enjoy the musical challenge of learning new songs, so I am happy to learn a first dance song for a wedding or anniversary to personalise your set list and help make the occasion extra special. I offer a number of different packages when I perform, and typically play during one of the following options... Anniversaries/ Special Birthdays - One hour set of swinging classics performed in a cabaret style to get your guests in the party mood without drowning out the conversation, often before/during or after a sit down meal. Dinner and Dance - Two live one hour sets, the first set- vintage classics to get the atmosphere going, the second - set uptempo for dancing. Weddings - 1) Drinks Reception - I will create the perfect ambience for your Drinks Reception. Before or during the photographs, I entertain your guests with some swing and infectious classic songs. I often perform outside – (depending on the great British weather of course!) 2) Wedding Breakfast - non obtrusive, romantic ballads and tasteful background music for you and your guests to enjoy. 3) Evening Reception - I will learn your special song for you as a ‘First dance’ and then play one or two up-tempo live sets for you and your guests to dance to. (Additional DJ service available after the live sets to keep the dancing going. Please let me know in advance if you require this service).

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and I actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via my PA after the final set until the venue closes, I provide this for a small additional fee (Probably in the region of £40/50 depending on how late you want to continue).

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as my PA is set up I can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for my live performance!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

My set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, I'm definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event, You can certainly choose your favourite songs from my repertoire and I'll fit them in at a suitable point.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, absolutely. I bring my own P.A./lights etc and it's all fully insured and P.A.T. tested.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn't included in my song list there may still be a chance I already know it. If there is a special song you'd like me to learn - for example for your 'First Dance' I am more than happy to do this for you for free. If you wanted 3 or more new songs - I could still do it with sufficient notice but there would be a small additional charge (£30/40).

What do your clients love most about your performances?

From a customer review by Julia (Birthday party) Marcus arrived at the venue well in advance of the start time. His performance was really terrific. He was able to judge the mood of the guests brilliantly and they all really enjoyed his singing. I could not rate him more highly. He made all the difference to the party and I have had some great feedback.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

L'Horizon Hotel, St. Brelade's Bay, Jersey, Beaulieu Hotel, Lyndhurst, Southdowns Manor Hotel, Petersfield, Forest Lodge Hotel, New Forest, South Winchester Golf Club, Royal Solent Yacht Club, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, La Locanda Del Duca Restaurant, Eastbourne, Old Thorns Hotel, Liphook, Lasham Gliding Club The Winter Gardens Eastbourne, Farnham Rugby Club

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Vocalists - Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner Trumpeters/Jazz musicians - Louis Armstrong, Kenny Ball, Benny Goodman, Johnny Hodges

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I played as support for 'Ward Thomas' who are a very popular sister act duo with a Number 1 Album - 'Cartwheels'.

Marcus recently sang at our 50th wedding anniversary party & he was great. He is a very pleasant man who was very happy to discuss before the event how we wanted the evening to go. It was obviously a very mixed crowd of all ages & we can honestly say that all our guests, whether young or older, thought Marcus hit the nail right on the head with his choice of songs. His repertoire is extremely varied with songs for all occasions. We had a sit down meal & Marcus played light background music while we ate, followed by singing afterwards. He was very good at judging his audience & picking the right songs to get everyone dancing. We all had a great evening & would thoroughly recommend Marcus for any event.

We hired Marcus for a resident event at a sheltered housing scheme, and the residents absolutely loved him! He really engaged with the audience, taking requests and involving them all through the performance. I have no doubt that Marcus would add a bit of sparkle to any event. Thanks Marcus!!

We had a private dinner party at home for 16 and Marcus was the after dinner entertainment. He started with some background music as everyone drunk their coffee and chatted, but soon cranked up the music and had everyone dancing. He sang a varied list of songs that we all knew and we all had just the most fantastic evening. I was not sure that my guests were going to let Marcus finish as they kept asking for more and more songs. Would I have Marcus again at a party, without a doubt, would I recommend him to others, most certainly. (10 / 10)

Marcus played at our son’s christening earlier this year, he was fantastic! He played gentle jazz during the afternoon and interacted with young and old alike. The children played and sang along, with the inflatable guitars, saxophones and microphones he had brought along with him. A little later in the afternoon Marcus did another set of rock and roll and feet tapping classics – everyone was up dancing and singing along. Thank you Marcus for making the whole afternoon so much fun and gauging the audience so well.
