María José was born in Purchena (Almería- Andalusia) in 1991. She started her musical studies at the local wind band when she was eight. Till the age of nineteen she was studying in Baza (Granada) with the Professor Marina Lemberg and continued at The Catalonian School of Music with Júlia Gállego and at The Rafael Orozco Music Academy in Córdoba with Pablo Estívariz. There, she developed her musical skills with musicians as Marc Hantäi (Transverse flute), Lutz Köhler (Conductor) and colaborated with Barcelona’s Symphonic Wind Band (cond. Salvador Brotons) and Córdoba’s orchestra (cond. Lorenzo Ramos).
She introduced herself in the improvisation with the Professor Albert Gumí and worked in the Opera Worshop with Daniel Mestre. She studied singing in the “Music Ziryab” conservatory of music.
Thanks to an Erasmus + scholarship she had the oportunity to study at The Karol Lipinski Music Academy of Wroclaw (Poland), with the polish flutist Elzbieta Wolenska.
She’s full member of the Youth Orchestra of Southern Spain (cond. Michael Thomas) and the Orchestra Academy of Barenboim- Saíd Foundation (Seville). Last summer she created “Burxana Ensemble”, specialized in Arabic and Andalusian music.
She has atended to many masterclasses of renowed flutists and performers as Aldo Baerten, Vincent Lucas, Karl-Heinz Schütz and Lorenzo Coppola. She is
also into musical pedagogy and ethnomusicology, working with renowed pedagogist as Polo Vallejo (Spain) and Horacio Curti (Argentina). She speaks Spanish, English (C1- Cambridge and TOEFL) and Italian.
Last year she studied a Music Education at the University of Almeria, focused in High Schools students. Currently she’s studying a postgraduate degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra.
From 2010 till 2014 she was teaching woodwinds instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone) at the woodwind local band in Purchena. She also taught flute at the School of Music "Creative Music Lessons" in Almería.
She is also into Musical/ Cultural Management and International Relations. Since last october, she has became the International Relations Manager of the Youth Orchestra of Southern Spain.
