Versatile Cellist, Collaborator and Arranger

Originally from Milton Keynes, Maddy Hamilton is a versatile and vibrant cellist. She began studying the cello aged seven through her local music service and is now studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where she learns under the guidance of Joely Koos and Naomi Butterworth. Maddy enjoys a varied musical life and regularly performs in a many different settings. Throughout her career she has performed at many prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre and Birmingham Symphony Hall with various orchestras and ensembles. Most recently she travelled to Davos, Switzerland to perform as part of the Taki Concordia Orchestra under Marin Alsop. She also holds much experience in the musical theatre field, performing in productions of Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Spring Awakening and The Sound of Music. Maddy is a keen session musician and enthusiastic for new and contemporary music styles. Over the years Maddy has worked closely with various composers and songwriters, writing, recording and performing new music. Highlights include performing at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival with Nik Bärtsch; performing alongside Marco Caricola as part of a composer’s showcase hosted by Decca Publishing; and recording at Air Edel and Abbey Road Studios in London. Her discography includes 2 albums from folk singer/songwriter Sian Magill amongst other genres and artists. Alongside her performing career, Maddy is a passionate educator and collaborator. As well as teaching cello individually, over the years Maddy has worked with the Junior Trinity department and Trinity Laban’s educational programmes. Maddy's work in education and community outreach has taken her from the Southbank Centre to the Tate Exchange. Maddy currently plays on a 1713 Jaques Boquay cello kindly loaned to her by Trinity Laban.
