About Lush Life

Hello! We are Lush Life, a jazz duo from London with lots of experience playing for private events. We also play in a 4 piece (bass/drums).
Jazz duo
London
Public liability insurance of £2 million

Lush Life is a real passion project for us, we feel we truly listen and vibe off each other, whatever we're playing. We have a true love for Jazz and between us we have performed at the Barbican, The Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scotts, Spice Jazz Soho, The Vortex and many more. We listen to a variety of music from Ella Fitzgerald to Esperanza Spalding, Billie Holiday to Bill Withers, The Miles Davis Quintet to Radiohead - drawing inspiration from these different styles in our arrangements and improvisation. We also work together on original compositions. We play in a four piece band with double bass and drums if that's something you'd like!

What's Love Got to Do With It?
Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We've been told the thing that really comes across is the musical relationship - how much we listen and respond to each other when we play. Our sounds go very well with evening drinks, wedding ceremonies or even brunches and lunches.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Together and between us we have played many venues - mainly in London - including Ronnie Scott's, The Barbican Theatre, The Royal Albert Hall, Buster Mantis, Folklore, Spice Jazz Soho, The Junction, Laylow, the Lighthouse and the Water Rats.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We love and listen to a wide range of music from the more traditional jazz like Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, to modern players such as Brad Meldhau and Paul Motian. Aside from jazz we also listen to artists such as Talking Heads, Pink Floyd and Radiohead.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Between us we've played alongside big names such as Jim Mullen, Claire Martin and Jason Rebello. We've also played at world famous Ronnie Scott's jazz club in Soho.

Do you have different line-up options?

We generally play as a duo but can add double bass, drums and/or a front line instrument like trumpet or saxophone if you'd like something a bit different!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help your event run as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event let us know and we'll try our best to work around you!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely, we can offer this for free.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually only need about half an hour maximum before the performance as the set-up is quite simple.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Yes we can play and sing acoustically if you'd like that!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes of course - our set list is comprised of the songs we enjoy and are comfortable with playing, but we know most tunes within the 'jazz standards' bracket so would be more than happy to chat about it and see what works for you. We also can do arrangements of pop songs if that's something you're interested in.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes all equipment is included in the quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it - but if we don't we are happy to learn up to three songs of your choice!

I was truly impressed by the quality of music provided by Lush Life. They played two, one hour sets for my garden party over the summer. Bewitching vocals and sophisticated arrangements - Tara's solos on guitar were truly astounding. Thank you very much!

Lush Life provided excellent entertainment for my 60th Birthday. Created a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere, and plenty of people were dancing by the end of the night. They are both personable and organised, would absolutely recommend!
