Lucy Neil, Cello: Born in Scotland in 1996, Lucy began learning the cello at the age of 5. She progressed quickly, joining the first cohort of Pre-Juniors at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland at the age of 6, becoming the youngest member of the Junior department at the age of 9. Following a family move to Aberdeenshire, Lucy won scholarships to study at the North East of Scotland Music School. She completed her schooling at the Music School of Douglas Academy in Glasgow, studying with Rudi de Groote. After graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music with a BMus(Hons), where she studied with Nicholas Trygstad, Lucy completed an MMus(Perf) studying with Timothy Gill and Joseph Crouch at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was then invited to continue as a Junior Fellow the following year.Whilst at GSMD, she discovered her passion for Historical Performance, in particular working with singers, which has led to her developing her professional career on both modern and baroque cello. Currently enjoying a varied freelance career combined with teaching both at the Yehudi Menuhin School and privately, as well as extensive outreach work, Lucy has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player all over the UK, as well as America and Europe.
