Lucy Humphris is one of the UK’s most exciting and versatile young trumpet artists. Her fresh and original approach seeks to widen the instrument’s repertoire and push beyond both musical and technical boundaries.
Approaching her final year at London’s Royal Academy of Music she is already establishing herself as a recognised trumpet soloist, having recently given recitals at Petworth Music Festival, Winchester Cathedral and venues in Hertford and Cambridge. She was also invited to Dartington International Festival, where she worked with several composers with a view to exploring new trumpet works. This year, invitations to give recitals at the Brighton Festival and the International Trumpet Guild's annual conference will allow Lucy to promote her passion for originality.
In 2012 she won the acclaimed London Symphony Orchestra Candide award and the following year was invited on a scholarship to the Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar where she performed the Henze Sonatina to Tom Stevens, also working with Steven Burns, Gabriele Cassone, Ed Carroll and John Wallace. She returned to Chosen Vale in 2016 to work with Håkan Hardenberger, Marco Blaauw, and Clément Saunier.
A composer and arranger, Lucy has arranged several works, including Janacek’s In The Mists and Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances. Her virtuoso piccolo playing of Bach’s G Minor Flute Sonata can be heard on You Tube.
