About Lola

The sound of a perfect evening - jazz standards and classic repertoire for weddings, events and venues across London
Singer (mezzo soprano)
London

Lola Porter is a London-based mezzo-soprano vocalist performing jazz standards, classic repertoire and contemporary songs for weddings, private events, restaurants, corporate functions and live music venues across the city. Rooted in a lifelong love of music, Lola was drawn early to the Great American Songbook — its elegance, its storytelling, and the way a well-chosen standard can transform the mood of a room entirely. That quality is at the heart of everything she does as a performer: whether she is drawing guests into a quiet, intimate moment during a wedding ceremony or setting the tone for an evening at a live music venue, she brings warmth, presence and a natural ease to every performance. As a trained vocalist with a mezzo-soprano voice, Lola performs across a broad range of styles — jazz standards and swing, bossa nova and Latin classics, lounge and cocktail favourites, and beyond. Her repertoire spans Ella Fitzgerald and the classic jazz canon through to timeless songs that work beautifully for any occasion. She adapts instinctively to whatever the room needs, reading an audience and shaping her performance accordingly — cool and effortless as background music for a drinks reception, warm and expressive for a ceremony, vibrant and engaging for an evening set. Lola performs regularly at jazz jam nights across London, including Night Tales Loft in Hackney, Grow Hackney and The Magic Garden, and has fronted an indie band performing original sets and covers at venues across the city. She has also performed as a wedding vocalist at private ceremonies and receptions, receiving consistently glowing feedback from couples and guests. Alongside her work as a vocalist, Lola studies BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, bringing a distinctive creative sensibility to everything she does. That background in art and visual culture informs her instinct for atmosphere — an understanding that great live music, like great art, is about creating an experience that stays with people long after the moment has passed. Lola is available for weddings, private events, restaurant and bar residencies, corporate functions and live music venues. She is happy to discuss bespoke set lists and song requests, and brings her own professional backing tracks to every booking.

Lola was absolutely wonderful at our wedding. She performed during the drinks reception and completely set the tone for the whole evening - guests were coming up to us all night asking who she was. She was lovely to work with too, really professional and easy to communicate with beforehand. We'd recommend her without hesitation.

We booked Lola to sing during our ceremony and she was everything we hoped for and more. Her voice is beautiful and she really understood the mood we were going for. It felt personal, not just like a hired performer. She arrived early, was completely unfazed by the nerves of the day, and got so many compliments from our guests. We couldn't have asked for more.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My clients most often tell me that the atmosphere I create is what stays with them and their guests long after the event. I've been told that my performances feel personal rather than just 'hired entertainment', and that I have a natural ability to read the room and adapt to the moment.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed at a range of venues across London and beyond, including The Amersham Arms, The New Cross Inn, The Hope and Anchor, The Troubadour, The Dublin Castle and The Brunswick in Brighton. I have also performed at private weddings including ceremonies at Cashes Green Methodist Church and Malmesbury Abbey.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My greatest influences are the golden age of jazz and the women who defined it - Ella Fitzgerald above all, for her effortless swing, impeccable phrasing and sheer joy, and Billie Holiday for the depth of feeling and intimacy she brought to every song she sang. I'm also deeply inspired by Sarah Vaughan's rich, operatic tone.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Headlining The Troubadour in Earl's Court to an audience of over 150 people - a show I organised and promoted entirely myself. The Troubadour is one of London's most iconic and historic live music venues, having hosted the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Ed Sheeran early in their careers.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Don't worry - timings shifting on the day is completely normal, especially at weddings! I always build flexibility into my schedule so I can adapt if things run early or late. Just keep me in the loop and we'll make it work.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

While I don't offer a full DJ service, I'm happy to provide a playlist through a speaker during the breaks between my sets to keep the atmosphere going. Just let me know the kind of music and mood you're after and I'll make sure the transition between live and background music feels seamless.

How much time do you need to set up?

I typically need around 30 minutes to set up and do a quick sound check before guests arrive. I'll always aim to be there well ahead of time so everything is ready to go before your event begins - you won't even know I'm setting up!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Absolutely! I love working with clients to put together the perfect set list for their event. Just send me your requests in advance and I'll let you know if they're in my repertoire - and if something you love isn't on my current list, feel free to ask as I'm always happy to learn new songs for a special occasion.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I travel with my own microphone and backing tracks, but I do require a PA system and speakers to be provided at the venue. Most venues will have this already in place, but please do check with your venue coordinator in advance. If you're unsure, just get in touch and I can advise on what's needed!

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! I'm always happy to learn new pieces for a special occasion - whether it's a first dance song, a meaningful piece for a ceremony, or something specific to set the tone for your event. Just let me know as early as possible so I have plenty of time to prepare it to the standard you deserve.
