About Liz

Liz is an experienced singer with a deep, soulful voice described as "liquid gold". Whether it's jazz/soul, pop or reggae its sure to please
Singer
Bradford
Public liability insurance of £10 million

LIZ OKI is vocalist who has worked within the entertainment industry for many years as a solo singer, fronting numerous bands, and as a "jingle" singer for TV and Radio. Whether it’s a corporate event, club function, wedding, pub or intimate party, she can offer an exciting mix of soul infused songs spanning 6 decades with classics especially tailored to suit any mood with a hint of jazz, pop and a drizzle of reggae. Her versatility and enthusiasm is obvious and is projected by her charismatic on-stage charm that captivates audiences at a local, national and international level. For a boundary pushing, rip roaring soul fest or mellow jazz, then look no further! After appearing on “The Voice UK 2014” Liz has had a lot of attention and between the two versions of her performance, she’s now heading towards 4 Million views on these two videos alone and this has resulted in giving her viewers and listeners a better insight to her talents and giving attention to her own songs, “I need to know” and “Thinkin’” and her own stamp on cover versions of the Bobby Goldsboro classic, “Summer the first time” which are available to buy on iTunes. Her distinct voice has been described as “liquid gold” and like a “lullaby” on her ballads yet “powerful” and “soulful” on the up-tempo songs. Will.i.am simply called her “an angel”. The cool, professional way she delivers her songs is effortless. Liz has an established client base which includes “Camelot”, “British Gas”, BT, and various financial institutions, computer companies, oil companies and golf clubs. She provides her own backing tracks and P.A for a medium sized venue and is a fully paid up member of the Musicians Union which also provides her with Public Liability Insurance through “Aviva”

Liz performed an amazing set for my 30th over Halloween. She knew just what to play and how to read the crowd after having discussed my wants and expectations a couple days before. Due to a late start on our end Liz also continued right through her break and didn't stop for what must have been hours! Absolutely amazing and I'm sure we will have Liz again for the next Harrisons Party :).

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

It’s hard for me to blow my own trumpet (really!) My voice has been described by others as “liquid gold”, “ like a lullaby”, “deep” , “like velvet” and Will i am described me as an angel.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have been singing for over 40 years so as you can appreciate, the venues are countless. I’ve worked in New Zealand (sang on the Jingle of the year in 1990), toured with Shakatak, supported The Real Thing, and have worked for various financial institutions, oil companies, British Gas, BT, Computer companies in various hotels and theatres around the world.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My voice is unusual for a woman so I wasn’t able to aspire to sound like anyone but I grew up on Motown, Nina Simone, Mavis Staples & Sarah Vaughan

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The biggest audience would have to have been on “The Voice UK”. Although I was grieving, sick and didn’t get through, my performance went viral on YouTube and I’m only now able to reap the benefit. Life is strange sometimes.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

No problem providing you let me know in good time (taking distance and time into consideration)

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, I come with a selection of background music - Mellow Jazz/Soul, Classical and music for dancing. Please be aware that I’m not a DJ and cannot provide requests unless I just happen to have those songs. To provide music after the final set will cost a further £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

Around an hour to 1hour 30minutes

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

My song list is crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure that guests dance and have a good time. I don’t work to a set list whilst performing but rather see how things go and pick songs accordingly. However, I’m definitely happy to chat and work in particular songs of your choice.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - I have my own PA equipment, Microphone and Backing Tracks. All I need is a safe electric socket nearby and a table for my mixer and radio mic receiver.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn’t included in my song list, provided I am able to get the backing track and have enough time to learn the song, I would be happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times/ cost of track etc.
