Lindsey Fillingham was born in South Africa and read music at the University of Cape Town before moving to Manchester to obtain an MMus at the Royal Northern College of Music (2011). She has played with top orchestras including the Hallé, Orchestra of the Swan and the Cape Philharmonic, and has performed as a soloist with the Johannesburg Philharmonic and the University of Cape Town Symphony orchestras. Lindsey was a runner-up in the RNCM Ken Griffin Flute Prize and was selected to tour with the RNCM Symphony to Montepulciano. A versatile musician, Lindsey was the Director of Music at St James and Emmanuel Church before moving to London in 2013. Lindsey has directed and performed in her own production, 'Soundscapes of South Africa' at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Didsbury Arts Festival, International Youth Arts Festival and Camden Fringe Festival. Incorporating folk song, classical music, poetry and narration, this has been described as 'outstanding’ and ‘enthralling’. Lindsey continues to showcase the music of her homeland in various recitals and performances. Lindsey is also an active improviser and workshop leader. Her music leadership experience includes delivering improvisation workshops at the University of Cape Town, and leading teams with 'Prom Praise for Schools' introducing KS 1 and 2 children to the instruments of the orchestra.
