Lewis Ip

Music has shaped my life ever since I can remember. From beginning piano lessons from age 5, to picking up clarinet and saxophone in my teens, I developed a close relationship with the music I make. I began busking on Buchanan Street in Glasgow in 2017, and I immediately fell in love with sharing my sound to the public. I primarily play covers of pop songs and oldies on my saxophone, but I love taking song requests from my clients as it gives me a chance to expand my musical horizons. Through my busking, I have immersed myself in the busking community, and I have made life-long friends from our shared passion. I have had countless opportunities to play in exciting venues. I performed a monthly gig at Mahony's Steakhouse from 2019 to 2020, which taught me how to cater my setlist to my audience. I have also volunteered to play music in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, which I found a very rewarding experience. I have experience performing at garden parties during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a pleasure to be able to play live music to friends, family and clients. I am currently studying Medicine at the University of Glasgow, which has been a difficult but incredibly interesting experience. I often get asked why I did not go into music for university, and I respond by saying that I believe that formally studying music will kill my creativity and my love for music. I want to keep music as the best hobby in the world.
