Leona Gogolicynová, violinist
Leona Gogolicynová, from the Czech Republic, is a third year Undergraduate student in Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London in the class of Professor Levon Chilingirian. She started violin lessons at the age of 6. She participated in many competitions as a soloist and also as a chamber musician, both in the Czech Republic and abroad, such as Junior Prague, Talents of Europe and the Josef Muzika International Competition in Nova Paka. Already in the 1st year at CB Conservatoire, she won a competition to play Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole (1st mvmt) with the South Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. She won the same competition the following year, and performed Ravel’s Tzigane.
She began her studies with the celebrated Professor Jan Drha (Head of strings at Ceske Budejovice Conservatoire) at the SZUS Zavadilka School of Music, where she was soon concertmaster of the String Orchestra. After successfully completing her graduation recital in 2009 in the O. Jeremias Concert Hall she was accepted into the class of Professor Drha at the Ceske Budejovice Conservatoire, where she studied for the next 6 years. Leona was awarded the Maturita diploma after four years, and two years later received her Graduated Specialist title with honours and public graduation concert. Leona has been invited to participate in many masterclasses with distinguished artists, such as Ivan Straus, Jindrich Pazdera, Frantisek Novotny, Peter Michalica, Tomotada Soh, Martin Chalifour and others.
In the last year of her diploma, she auditioned for the South Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (JFK) and subsequently performed regularly as a 1st and 2nd violinist in the orchestra. Invited for a three week tour with Symphony Opera Orchestra Virtuosi Brunenses (April 2016) in China, she was invited again to join the South Czech Philharmonic for two weeks in December–January 2016/2017.
Excelling in her academic studies as well as in music, Leona produced a graduation dissertation on the topic Stress as a risk factor in a daily life of musicians and graduated with highest marks in subjects such as English and Artistic-Pedagogic Preparation.
